Hi Polly,

A long time ago you raved about "Winged Migration" and I finally got to see it, albeit on DVD at home. Still, I wanted to tell you that I loved it, and especially the special features that came after the movie!

They were almost as good as the movie itself, because you got to meet the producer, naturalists, cameramen, and composer and hear many of the inside details. It was so amazing how they were all very touched by the experience of making the film. Some of them still return to Normandy to visit the birds they raised.

Maybe you've already viewed the home version and seen these features, but if you haven't I would encourage you to rent or buy it. The additional segments make for an extra two hours of great viewing and education!
I'm in love with those birds!

Love,
Alice

Alice,

Thank you.....for letting me know about the DVD with special features. I am excited to buy it! After the movie, I was dying to know more about how it was made, etc., so this is perfect!

So glad you enjoyed it - such an incredible story. I have the hugest warm spot in my heart for those penquins now, along with respect and admiration. Awesome creatures......and better parents than we humans are in many cases.

Love,

Polly

Polly,

It wasn't the penguin one, it was the migrating birds one. I haven't seen March of the Penguins yet. I'm very behind!

Duh! :duh:

I was speed reading and missed the title. LOL! But I am equally in love with that movie as with the penguin one. So I will definitely get the DVD. How they got the action shots was even more amazing with this movie, I'm sure. More difficult, since they had to be in the air!

Polly,

They used the imprinting technique to "adopt" the birds as their children and then trained them to accept and actually like the ultra-light planes, cameras, etc. Then they were able to fly very close to them to get the shots. Amazing!

Love,
Alice
