Thanks, Tex. I get those cracks on the fingers too, and have never thought of using Bag Balm for them! I use chapstick. At night, I slather it on and then cover it with a bandaid until morning and that works like a darn too. They are no longer sore when you wake up. Say, do you think those cracks associated with MC?!!! I have had them most of my life, and come to think of it, don't know anyone else who gets with them like I do. We should do a poll.... or have you already done one?

I definitely agree that "Baboon Butt" is like a burn , so when I am reacting really badly, I also always wipe away any of that awful burning acidic residue after a BM, with a wet facecloth, (yup , Gabes, that is what we call them) before applying the bag balm.

Gee, this is so "special", to actually have someone to discuss this stuff with...:-) seriously tho ... I mean it!

MO, Tex, I just sent that Tex message to DH. He gets that finger problem frequently. Now all we have to do is find the stuff. Drugstores or Wal-Mart or?

Up here you are more likely to find it at an animal /farm supply place but our local pharmacies carry it.

Here is link onwhere to find it in the US.

Linda,

Other members here have mentioned the finger problem, but it never occurred to me that it might be connected with MC, though obviously it might, since other skin issues are certainly linked with the disease. I just assumed that everyone had the problem, in cold, dry weather, especially if they wash their hands often. I'll set up a poll, a little later, when I have some time.

Actually, I rarely have the problem any more, since I started using a lotion made by Gojo, called Hand Medic, after I wash my hands, or whenever my hands feel dry, (during cold, dry weather). Hand Medic is targeted at professional mechanics, and meat processors, and previously, it was only available through professional vendors, but lately I've seen it at auto parts stores, farm and ranch supply stores, etc. It apparently has some antibiotic effects, similar to bag balm, but it's in lotion form, sold in a small, (2 fl. oz.), bottle, and an 8 fl. oz. pump-type dispenser, (that's handier to use). It's not cheap, but it works very well - it's a skin conditioner par excellence. It might work just as well for baboon butt, also, for all I know. I see that it's even available on Amazon, now, so I guess it's gone mainstream:

Joan,

I've noticed Bag Balm at Walgreens, so I'm guessing that most drug stores probably stock it, and health food stores might stock it. I bought mine at a feed store, but at the rate I use it, a tin lasts virtually forever, so I haven't bought any in years. Of course, it's available on Amazon, too:

You're most welcome,

I used the Bag Balm and it did the trick for me.

When my children were little I remember the doctor and my mother telling me to keep the diaper off the child so the area would be exposed to the air. Only problem with this is when you can't make it to the bathroom there is nothing to catch it. Believe me, this has happened to me. What a mess!

TEx/Linda
i have had the finger issue since MC

my acupuncturist says it is related to our bodies releasing toxins, as the digestion process for absorbing these is not as effective

going "commando" as they call it :-)

Charlotte, I agree it just feels too risky to run around "aux naturelle" down there! I just never know when what feels like it is going to be an innocent passing of gas will turn out to be something entirely more serious!!!

Gabes, now that is interesting that you have had those cracks since getting MC. I am not sure about the "releasing toxins"... it doesn't FEEL like that's what it is but .. who knows! I am sure there a lot of toxins that need to be released...As my Mom would have said,
"The bad's got to come out somewhere!"

i have had days where all of my hands up to my wrists 'peel' like a lizard shedding skin
and the skin around the nails is cracked so bad it is bleeding and i have to wear bandaids on the fingers to be able to use the computer

this has happened about 4 times since MC. I never had it before MC
I use a manuka honey wound cream and cotton gloves of a night to try and heal the skin.

and re the going comando i never did it for long periods as i can not trust the message system down there.
mostly, post shower i would stand in front of the fan to get the area dry so i didnt have to use a towel.
or if the sun was coming in the window onto my bed, i would lay out towels and lay there for 5 - 10 mins which is what they recommend for babies. luckily i never had an accident at this time, generally i was having a shower post chronic D so i knew i had 30 - 40 mins before the next possible situation.
i remember at its worse, l lived life in 30 mins increments. I knew i had 30 mins to complete a task before i had to be near the toilet. go to the toilet, drive to the shops, go to the toilet, i had 30 mins to get supplies, go to the toilet, drive home.

it was like an episode of the amazing race! there was a detour or a challenge constantly....

I use zinc whatsit ointment that's used for bad baby diaper rash, and it works well. What I found was the constant watery D was making me sore but wiping with even soft paper made it worse. I bought baby wipes and found they helped quite a lot. Paper for the worst of it then the wipes to clean properly then the ointment.

I was sick from cashew all last week and got so sore - I call it "hot poker bum". The wipes and ointment helped keep me from being raw.

One brand of wipes I got is flushable, so I save those for when I am out or away. It's the only one I saw that I could flush.

ps that's the rash that's bad, not the baby!

The emoticons were slowly accumulated over the years, as the need arose. They come from all over the internet. With MC, sometimes you have to laugh, to keep from crying.

Ok, I have hesitated from posting this but it might help some, so here goes....... This is gross even for PP, so be warned......
When I was prepping for my colonoscopy I developed major baboon bum: bad burning on the inside of both cheeks. I worked out I could minimize the problem by making use of the "watery" in "watery D". The technique was to squirt has much as possible straight out so as to avoid any of the acid D from touching the "sides" - inside cheeks.

As I said, gross but maybe useful, Ant
