I have elevated Rheumatoid Factor x 8 years but no joint pain. Very low Vit D level years ago too -- 17. No bone scan yet, but after a year on prednisone, I expect to ask my rheumatologist for a Dexa scan. I'm nervous of what it'll show! Thankfully I've never broken a bone in my life other than my nose. I take calcium supplements, but I always wonder if they are doing anything at all.

My disease comes with a risk of calcinosis - the formation of calcium deposits in any soft tissue. I have no idea if supplemental calcium feeds these growths. It's primarily seen in Juvenile Dermatomyositis.
