Hi Tex, so sorry to hear about your latest visit to the ER. You are one tough guy and seem handle everything with tremendous guts and courage. You've got an unconquerable spirit and we all benefit from it. I thought I would add my thoughts with Gayle about the migraine connection. We have a 20 year old young man in our neighborhood who has had these mysterious attacks that sound a lot like yours. His family has called 911 several times thinking he was having a stroke. The latest medical diagnosis he has received is some type of migraine (I don't know the name but could ask them) that causes stroke-like symptoms. I'm sure you'll figure it out if that is what it is. Hope you're getting some rest and sending prayers and positive thoughts your way, Love JoAnn
Thanks everyone,
I do so appreciate your support. And Gayle and JoAnn, thanks for bringing up the migraines, also. (JoAnn, I believe the ones that cause one-sided symptoms are called "hemiplegic migraines"). I had forgotten about those, but they're certainly still a possibility. The symptoms can completely mimic a stroke, (or a TIA), except that symptoms are usually temporary, and scans and other tests show no changes in the brain, blood vessels, or anything else. The problem is, very, very few doctors have even heard of them, let alone know anything about them. It bothers me some, that I don't have any auras, nor any headaches, associated with these events, but I don't believe that they are essential, since patients with this condition tend to have individualized symptoms.
I think that what I will do, is to take these prescribed drugs, (I still haven't decided about the statin), just to be on the safe side, while trying to locate a neurologist who knows enough about migraines to at least be aware of the possibilities, and who is interested enough to be willing to do further research on them, if necessary. The neurologist who examined me while I was in the hospital may be a candidate, because she seemed interested in my case, (especially the fact that my peripheral neuropathy had significantly improved in 9 months of taking Metanyx). She agreed that I didn't appear to have Parkinson's, but she mentioned that if I should ever feel the need to see a neurologist about my symptoms, in the future, I should ask my PCP to apply for an appointment for me, at the hospital, and the request would cross her desk, and she would take the case. It never dawned on me at the time, to ask if she was familiar with the concept of hemiplegic migraines, but I have a hunch that she might be willing to learn, if she's not already familiar with them, and she would certainly have access to information that's unavailable to me.
Thanks again, I truly appreciate everyone's concern and kindness.
Love,
Tex

Hello Tex, I am sorry to hear about your need to visit the ER, but I am glad that you are home now. That experience sounds scary, you always worry about stroke with symptoms like that.
Again I would like to thank you for all your great information and kind messages that you so generously share.
I will be praying for you
Best Wishes

Tex,
Geez, I leave for a couple of weeks and all hell breaks loose!

You are both indispensable and irreplaceable, so I hope you figure this stuff out soon and things settle down for you, my friend.I appreciate the kind words, but really, it appears to me that everyone here does a pretty good job of helping each other, so I'm not exactly indispensable
Connie
Resolved MC symptoms successfully w/L-Glutamine, Probiotics and Vitamins, GF since 8/'09. DX w/MC 10/'09.
Hi Connie,
I'm hoping to eventually figure it out, too, but so far, no clues - not in any of the test results, anyway.
Soooooooooo, to be on the safe side, I'm taking the blinkety-blank drugs, but I feel like hell every morning, (for some reason or other, I feel drugged. )

Connie,
Yep, the prescription-writin', statin-pushers have me right where they want me. They're probably grinnin' from ear to ear.
Gabes,
You've got the right idea. I even decided to change my signature line on that thought.

Most definately Tex - love the new tag line.
i am 30 mins away from going to the interview (yes the infamous interview that the time and date got changed 4 times)
i havent done any prep, my guts are quite unsettled, i dont think my body likes adrenalin and cortisol.....
and as i type this.... the song comes into my head
que sera sera
or is it...... by the light of the silvery moon
or is it .......just blew in from the windy city.....
time for coffee, toilet stop with deep breathing, and get my head into the right space!

thanks tex
all done.
i was a bit distracted after reading Jodi's post this morning, it was a bit weird to feel grief for someone i dont know, i realised what an impact this family has had. so now i can release the few tears that I held back.
it is the anniversary of my dads death this week so was already feeling a bit unsettled.
interview went well... i always laugh at the patronising hr questions. I had already answered them during the interview with other discussions but they still go ahead and ask them cracks me up.
all done.

I work for Australian Aerospace - we build helicopters for the australian defence force. I work on the project building the troop carrying helicopter that will replace the black hawk fleet.
my role is in the capability and transition side of things (contract program managment) looking at risks, contract requirements, reporting etc
Prior to here, I worked for a company doing underwater mineral exploration (deep water with ROV's) in Papua New Guinea and Tonga. we were the first in the world to be doing what we were and it was a magical three years.
in summary.... i deal with lots of engineers!!!
