I found this article so interesting and very thought provoking. I am so glad you shared that Joan. thank-you Wayne for adding the other information. knowledge is power to help make wise choices. I feel even more determined to take care of my health and make wise choices for me. This journey continues to have twists and turns but
I can keep moving forward eating properly for my body, unlike any other body in the world, only I know the symptoms I feel and the emotions I experience and along with being loved and loving my family and friends with my whole heart and gratitude for just being alive and able to eat good , wonderful wholesome foods. My life is a gift and I love it. It is my choice to look at my cup half full, not half empty.. this disease and everyone here has helped me see that. There is always someone out there who has it worst than me with M/C, last month I had two very dear people in my life pass away, both from cancer and I miss them, but life is for living to appreciate what I have been given and I intend to do just th at. :pigtail: keep smiling

Stanz, In hear you! I look forward to the day when we just take a pill and no longer eat food. I really don't enjoy eating anymore. It's like the movie Groundhog Day. I try to stay positive and I know so many people are worse off, but nonetheless it's tiresome.

Hi Marcia,
It is difficult to keep a postive attitude but I sure think my life is worth it to be the best it can possibly be, and I am in control of a positive or negative outlook on life, nobody else can do it for me, sure, it is tiresome living with these limitations our disease has put on me ,but I don't miss those foods anymore, I love how I eat now, these foods I now eat ( limited variety) I look at the silver lining in that, I know what I am eating is a whole food that doesn't have additives in it. Gosh, when I think back on the many foods I just ate not even reading the label, most times just eating ingredients, I could never pronounce and just turned a blind eye to it, thinking these people who make this stuff must know what this is because I sure don't. Now, I don't eat anything unless I know what it is in it, period, I love sweet potatoes and there are so many recipes on internet to make everything from sweet potato muffins to sweet potato coconut milk ice cream, I have such an open mind to
inviting this world of possiblities into my mind of what to eat and when, I don't care if it is breakfast or lunch or dinner , I will eat what I want in my safe foods and not feel deprived. My last trip overnight in a hotel, I awoke one morning and was able to use a microwave to reheat my left over
turkey soup for my breakfast and sat at a table beside some stranger who remarked " soup for breakfast, your are weird" I just didn't look offensive when I noticed he had donut and some coffee and I said " well, you should try it , instead of a donut sometime" It is delicious" He just smiled and watched me eat it and I made sure I said " yum" after every mouthful.. I wasn't lying it was delicious full of things that I knew wouldn't cause me any problems and a beautiful start to my day. That was one experience where , it could have turned into a very
horrible day for me feeling insulted but I turned it around and felt great. I want to take care of me, so I can be the best "me" I can bring to anyone that I love and loves me for "me" If I am down about my disease I drag everyone else down, if I look at my disease as a tool to live life healthy and care about " me" Wow that is amazing what you can do with your life to live and not just exist. I love my food and would hate to just take a pill.. get back to loving your food again. put it in a fancy bowl , I cut my GF toast flavoured with melted coconut oil, into strips, and stick them around the sides of my bowl to have a crunchy element to my vegetables plate, if I am having my homemade soup made with my soup broth, I make sure to add a little coconut milk drizzled over top to make it look all fancy and it just tastes great. All those foodnetwork shows and even Youtube, despite having many foods I can no longer eat, do have something I enjoy doing looking at how food is presented on a plate and you do indeed eat with your eyes first. In fact, once when I had a meal in a restaurant prepared especially for me by a chef, he put my plain sweet potato unseasoned into a little bowl all by itself garnished with a basil leaf, and I ate it just as it was and it was delicious, not ladden down with a bunch of sugar, or cream nothing that took the natural flavour of that sweet potato taste. Also squash if it is tolerated is also a great dish to get creative with as well. I roast my two spaghetti squash halfs in the oven at 400 for 40 mins, and then take and then swirl the fork around inside the cavity of the squash and create the noodles, add to this some avocado mashed up
along with my leftover turkey cut into chunks and mix it in the noodles and it it absolutely delicious. I have eaten this for breakfast and I love it
Don't give up on your creativity, if I can come up with new ideas to rethink the traditional meals , anyone can do it. Who was the first one to say that you had to eat only certain foods for breakfast, I say eat what works for you body and makes you feel wonderful to start your day not feeling deprived but feeling alive..

Very inspiring and beautifully said! Thank you, twirlitgirl!! 😊

Love, Patricia

Patricia, thank you for feeling inspired, I know being positive especially after the loss of two most amazing people in my life, it really opened my eyes
I received so much loving support from both and in fact one wasn't sick when I got my diagnosis and now she is gone and I sometimes really can't wrap my head around this, but in order to go on I must accept it and make living in a positive way, the best it can be. I have that power and I choose to use it. I know it is taking this phrase from a commercial for hair color.. but " I am so worth it" I love who I am now.
take care and have a great day. the sun is shining here, but even if it wasn't, a cloudy day isn't so bad, I am here to enjoy both. keep smiling

Thank you for posting this, Joan. Not at all surprised that this is the case. I thought I was being cautious with everything I eat, but I definitely need to look again at the meats I'm buying. I do have grass-fed beef available here, but rather than paying the higher price, I've been purchasing meats from a grocery store that labels many of their meats as gluten free. Maybe that's not enough

I'm a bit confused here. I thought this was a recent thread. I was only looking at the month, and not the year of this thread. When I looked at this closer I saw that this is something Joan posted in 2010.

The confusing part is that Tex's response provides a link (the 2nd one) that when clicked on gives a Lectin Report that is dated 9/08/16.

Still happy to read this, but confused about the dates.

I believe that older posts come up periodically, which is (I think) a great thing! When one uses the search function, as an example, it can bring up many topics and it's sometimes easier and makes more sense to continue on with a thread already started that contains much of the information on your specific area of interest.

"Oldies but goodies" ... there is so much benefit to the older posts which is why keeping the archives here has been so important to Tex ... to preserve them for all of us! Newer responses to older posts will have newer information including links which weren't available previously.

Thank you for that, Holly. Of course I already knew that.

What I found confusing is what I said in my second sentence (above). Although Tex's response is dated 2010, a link he provides when you click on it is dated 9/08/16.

Paula,

That Lectin Report is updated regularly (whenever new information becomes available).

I was beginning to think it was on their end rather than this forum. Thank you.

It's very interesting. I've never read indepth on lectins, but it may be beneficial to know more.

Thanks for this information...this could be the answer to those unexpected reactions when I can't figure out what happened when I ate something I thought was safe. Now I am reacting to everything!

And Thanks Leslie for the mention of Slankeys; I checked out their site to compare with the local farmer I've just found for pork & lamb. And it's nice to have another source...

http://diestelturkey.com/

While we're on this subject, I discovered Diestel Turkey Ranch quite by accident. They actually have a luncheon meat that is non GMO, 0 gluten, 0 carragenan, 0 fillers, and 0 soy. I've tasted 2 of their products and I thought they were delicious. I found it at whole foods and just for fun, on their website, I entered a zip code for Dallas and it came up as selling at whole foods.

You can read all about the company by going to their website on the link provided above, it's very interesting. You will also notice that their turkey prices are very expensive but I found that the prices in the store were reasonable.

Enjoy!
