Glad you're home Gabes and can relax. Thanks for sharing your experiences which will certainly help us all.
Good luck Joe and Gloria on your upcoming trips. I know we'll learn a lot from both of you when you have your travel experiences. I'm sweating over a trip we'll be taking to Southern Utah in August mainly because we'll be out in the wilderness.
Harma, I noticed you're a FleetwoodMac fan-me too! They were in Salt Lake last summer and we went to the concert. Lots of fun-my all time favorite band.

Happy 4th of July to all, JoAnn

JoAnn, I am fan of fleetwoodmac, but even more a fan of Stevie nicks, I like her voice, I'm sure we went to the same concert, I went in October last year. I mean the concert of the same tour. Agree, lots of fun with also my all time favorite band. Isn't it amazing how their voices, there music, after 40 years still sounds the same when they started. Or maybe even better.

Thanks Rosie, Polly and Harma

Polly - travel with MC is the same as life with MC, planning and research, always have your safety net (clothes and foods) i would be honoured to draft up information for your book.

i have been home about 60 hours. i have been eating mushy easy to digest meals of veges, rice, stewed meat and my savoury muffins, this with with lots of rest i am just starting to feel 'normal'. BM's are back to normal as at this morning

the jet lag thing has meant that i have been waking up at 2am for about 2 hours.

i have done my big cook up to restock the freezer again and have enough meals for the week ahead, between this and doing all the washing from the trip i have not had time for anything else other than rest.

home sweet home, my bed, my foods, no stress related to eating, no language barriers when i try to buy food.
Ohh toto - there is no place like home..........

Thank you on your traveling experience with MC. I have Type 1 Diabetes and MC. It's a challenge. My husband and I are going to Peru - the Amazon and Macchu Picchu this September. I refuse to eat Guinea pigs, which are home grown in Peru. They are eaten everywhere. Hoping I can find suitable food. He has sleep apnea and I have my issues which makes traveling difficult. Thanks for telling us about your story. Dorothy Williams :

Hello all, I have been recently diagnosed with CC and have a trip to France coming up in the Fall. The problem is that it will be a barge cruise and basically a food and wine experience. They do ask you upfront if you have any food allergies and I hope to have my food sensitivities figured out by then. But still, being on a boat with one chef I feel like there wont be much I can eat so will have to fall off the wagon and just be prepared with my special underwear and Immodium, and hope I make it through. I realize I may not be able to take the day trips off the barge so I can stay near a restroom. If anyone has taken a similar trip, I would love to hear from you if you have tips, warnings, etc. Gabe’s airplane diet was good to know, even if it only consisted of three foods!

Hi Anne,

If you will give them an accurate list of your food requirements, you'll find that cruise line chefs, in general, do a far better job of providing safe, delicious-tasting meals for people who have restricted diets than most on-land restaurant chefs. Members here have normally had no problems with their meals during cruises.

Hello to this old topic,

Shocking that not much has changed in 12ish years! Airlines still only deal with gluten or dairy free, not both. I contacted American Airlines as that is who we fly out with. I was advised to contact the airport and try to speak to the catering team. I’ve yet to do that.

Our travel time is around 29 hours so I will have to face eating at some point somewhere. Apparently Los Angeles airport should be able to provide boiled rice or a baked potato but we shall see.

I will ask the catering team for a banana or two at the least. I’m hoping I can take some cereal with me and either 100ml of coconut milk or perhaps yogurt or both, also rice cake. I will take a packet of crisps or two but I know these upset me, I will eat them if I’m desperate to eat.

I will update when I’ve spoken to the airports.

Edit: the information I was given was rubbish, there is no department to speak to at Heathrow! At least going through the options listed on the phone.

Kind Regards,

Amy

taking some sort of safe snack is best option.
rice cakes and avocado
Have a doctors letter with you. Can you take some of the nutrient drinks you were consuming a few months ago??

the other thing is have LARGE safe meal before you travel and then if you can rest/sleep for most of the trip and not eat that much on the plane, you will hopefully be able to get a safe cooked protein whilst in transit.

some of my transits points were not at peak travel times so the food places in the international airports were not open
I found the effort to try and find safe food while travelling not worth it. most things at airports are mass produced 'just add water' or just heat type cooking.
there have been times when I couldn't even find a place to get a boiled egg or a poached egg!

Hi Gabes,

Thank you! The avocado is a great idea! :) I’m hoping to be able to buy a little jar of jam or almond butter maybe, though they are not a safe food. I’ve stopped the drinks, I think they were causing a problem in the end. Also another great point about the timings! It will be evening when I get to LAX 😬 Morning at Sydney though.

My gastro didn’t sound interested in providing a letter, they did ensure I have the prescription for Budenoside though. New Zealand requires us to have a prescription or letter for medication, sorry if I’ve repeated.

Kind Regards,

Amy

I worked all day Saturday at an offical event - it was 15 hour work day
there was no access to a kitchen so I couldn't heat anything - was able to have a small cooler bag with frozen ice bricks to keep things cold
one of my meals was cold cooked chicken and avocado, the other meal was rice cakes with ham

if you freeze an apple juice or small bottle of water - and use this to keep some pre cooked meat cold in a small cooler bag and have this in your carry on luggage. half way through the flight have the cold meat with avocado.

reminder the quarantine laws in Australia are VERY strict - you won't be able to have any food in your bags as you pass through Sydney. Eat or throw away anything you have as you exit the plane!! There are HEFTY fines for breaching this.

Thank you Gabes! I wasn’t planning on taking cold meat as I don’t like the texture of leftover meat if I can avoid it. Not sure if I will be able to tolerate parma ham yet 🤔

American Airlines have a ‘bland’ meal option, apparently from a Google search this is usually cooked meat with minimal spices, vegetables and fruit. I’ve selected it as you never know. Hoping there will be allergen information available…

Sydney sounds worrying! I doubt there will anything left by then though, my appetite is huge atm 😂
