Nathan's Hot Dogs
I have to make a comment on Nathan's Hot Dogs. They have wheat gluten as an ingredient, as well as corn gluten. I didn't read the label, thinking they were OK, and got glutenized. Took me months to get my system calmed down again!
rhart - at least some of their hot dogs are gluten free but maybe not all???

Rhart,
FWIW, corn gluten is irrelevant except for a few people who are sensitive to zein, (the primary protein in corn). The only gluten that most of us are sensitive to is found in wheat (gliadins and glutenins), barley (hordein and hordeinin), rye, (secalin), and oats (avenin). The gluten content of other grains is normally not a problem for celiacs, nor for most people with MC, though there are a few unlucky individuals who are exceptions, of course.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
BRAT diet
My experience has shown that the BRAT diet isn't a good long term helper. I do the BRAT for a couple of days, but after that, I get some low residue protein: chicken or fish, and have a generally soft diet. I'm taking DELZICOL morning and night, and that helps calm the lining of the gut as well.

Caffeine may or may not be a problem, but cow's milk definitely needs to be avoided and sugar should be limited.
I have two cups every morning, with a couple of sugar cubes.
