Will be keeping you in prayer, Tex. I do agree with the others in that if it was serious you should have gotten a phone call. Hopefully it can be treated with oral meds. Keep us posted when you can.

Paula

Tex,

Hope you get that figured out and are on the mend soon. I am sure you are doing your own homework on this one.

The UTI version doesn't seem too bad, thank goodness. Is your back pain on one or both sides? Have you tried gently punching your back on either side just below the ribcage? A kidney infection would cause horrible pain when you do that.

Thanks everyone, for all the expressions of concern. Maggie was right - it was a false alarm. I suppose it's a good thing that I checked it out, though, because the doctor hadn't even seen the report, (the nurse apparently forgot to give it to him).

After he finally found a copy of the report, he said that the culture count was well below the critical threshold that usually indicates an infection. IOW, the bacteria apparently were there because of external contamination, not because of an infection. Besides, by now, I should be having chills and fever and various other UTI symptoms, and since I have none of them, I'm sure he's right.

Zizzle, the pain is only on my right side, (where I landed on the battery box of that truck when I fell). I wouldn't describe it as horrible, just bad enough to keep me from poking around there. I don't believe it's anywhere near bad enough to indicate an infected kidney, and it's slowly improving, so I think it just needs some more healing time.

Sorry about the false alarm.

Praise God that it was a false alarm! It does make you realize just how much we, the patient, must take matters into our own hands, doesn't it, Tex? As crazy as it sounds, it is almost better to think that our doctors aren't aware of a medical situation than to believe that they are! We must be ever so vigilant with our health, because, when it comes down to it, nobody is more concerned about our health than us!

And Tex, would increasing a Vitamin C dosage help you to heal faster? Isn't Vitamin C the "healing" vitamin? Anyway, I am SO glad that the infection is not critical. Nobody needs that kind of stress! Take care!

Mandy,

You're right, of course - vitamin C is critical for healing. I should be getting enough of it between my multivitamin and my diet. All my external wounds healed much faster than I expected - it just takes longer for cracked ribs to heal. Before I take my pills in the morning, I'll look around to see if I have any vitamin C capsules lying around, and I'll start taking them for a while, if I find any.

Thanks,
Tex

Woohoo Tex! Great news!

Now about forgetting to pass along a test result to the physician...kind of scary to say the least. It really makes you wonder how many patient tests/results are misplaced or forgotten about in the massive amount of records in a doctor's office.

I know when I mentioned to my gyn during my last visit that no one called me with my DEXA scan result (from last year's visit) I assumed all was well. She went and tracked it down and it showed for the first time ever that I had osteopenia. I went a whole year not knowing that I could be trying to intervene with calcium and weight bearing exercise to slow down the bone loss. Now that is far from a life threatening matter, but can you imagine if it had been! Now I alway ask for a copy of EVERY test result in case I'm the only who ever takes the time to really look at it!

So glad it was a false alarm!!!

Julie,

You raise a good point. I've heard of situations where the test results never arrived at the doctor's office, and in a rare case like that, if no followup appointment is scheduled, or the patient doesn't inquire, then apparently no one ever will ever be aware that the report was lost.

As you say, as long as we request a copy, then we can be sure that it arrived, but if we rely on someone in the office to call, (in the situation where an adverse result indicates a need for a followup), then we would mistakenly assume that everything checked out fine, if the test report never shows up at the doctor's office, (unless someone there just happens to remember that they were expecting a report, but that's probably asking a lot in a busy office).

 So very glad that everything seems to be OK!!
I agree that misplaced/neglected test results can be very damaging.

I once had a cystoscopy and during my follow-up visit the Dr. couldn't find the results (computerized). As far as I know it never turned up. I wasn't worried about it becuase they were looking for microscopic blood in the urine (for the 2nd time) which eventually disappeared on it's own but if it had been something serious I would have really been upset.

Take care of yourself, Tex. You really did some damage with that fall.

Tex,

Well, that's sure a relief. I hope your pain gets better quickly, but bones tend to heal slowly.

Thanks everyone. It's definitely much better than it was a week ago. I think in another week or so I'll probably be as good as new.
