Hey Zizzle,
How is the juicing going? Any ill effects?
I am tolerating the juice and it tastes soooooo good!

Hi Mickey,
No ill effects for me, although my husband claims he feels sickly after a huge glass. He uses lots of beets and apple, so I suspect too much sugar in his, or a beet intolerance? I'm juicing once a day in the evenings and easily drink 8-14 ounces each time. It really does satiate me for some reason. I skipped a couple of dinners this week! But I am mindful of the sugar content...

Incidentally, I successfully battled and beat a UTI this week! I had all the signs (I'm a veteran), and I concentrated on taking 2 doses of D-Mannose a day, drinking plenty of water, and juicing. It worked!!

Zizzle,

Very good on fighting off the UTI!

I am juicing with carrots, celery, kale and lemon, yummy! I tried apple instead of celery. And I. Like the celery best.
If I get the OK from my doc to proceed, I am going to start with one day of fasting and work my way up......hoping to give my colon a rest.

I will make a run to Costco. And try to buy in bulk!

Thanks for being here, I do apprciate your kindness.

Update on juicing!

Zizzle and anyone who is interested!
I am loving the juice I am making. I have settled in on:

Carrots
Celery
Kale
Sometimes a golf ball sized beet ( I am told it can detox the liver too
fast)
Half lemon

Mm, mm good! My whole system feels calmer. I juiced for breakfast and lunch.
For dinner I had some chicken thigh, chicken broth with carrots, celery, onion, new potato, tomato, kale and salt, pepper. Oh, I also used some thyme and cummin.

Finally, I had a 6 on Bristol stool chart.

The best thing is.that I feel nourished after months of feeling so low energy.
Thanks for everyone's continued support!

That's awesome! I do feel more "nourished" when I juice too. My husband is still complaining of a slight headache and sickly feeling immediately after he juices, even without beets. He has severe pollen allergies, so I wonder if he might be reacting to allergens or histamine in the carrots or celery. But he recovers well and feels good overall while juicing.

I feel better when I juice. I tend to juice a lot of leafy greens (spinach, kale, chard, romaine lettuce, celery) to which I add apples, pears. a few grapes and carrots. I juice for a friend and for myself. I make a lot at once.

Z, I made the bars you suggested. They were delicious. I need to make some more. Thanks for the suggestion.

I added some cabbage to the juice mix and it has been well tolerated.

I can't help but think that juicing is contributing to my general feeling of well being.
I also think my colon feels less angry with me

I will soon have a whole day of juicing, I am now doing 2 meals of juicing and supper I eat solid foods.

I'm not sure if that's such a good idea. You need protein for healing. 2 meals of juicing necessarily decreases your protein intake, whereas we MC'ers, with a lot of parts requiring healing need way more than normal.
Joe Cross's dietician (Fat, sick and almost dead) told me that with a condition like mine I must NOT, under any circumstances, fast. In fact she advised cutting the juice by 1/2 water.
I would love to lose some of the weight I put back but not at the risk of not providing the healing protein I need.
I juice daily and do fruit smoothies, but make sure I eat enough protein.

Lesley,

Thanks for the info, do you feel that two juices and one meal is too much juice?
I usually eat at least two pieces of chicken, and sometimes go back for another piece. My freinds can't believe how much i eat.....:-)

I do drink water right after each drink of juice. I try to drink equal parts.

I am going to the Doctor next Tuesday, and get some more tests.....I will ask to have protein levels checked.
I appreciate your concern.

Update,
Hey folks,

I am still juicing with no ill effects....

one stool this morning and very close to being a 5 on the Bristol Stool Chart.

I don't know if many of the PP's beyond Zizzle and Lesley are using juices, I think the rest my colon gets and the minerals in the juice have helped me turn a corner in my quest for optimal health.

Great news...you're all encouraging me to try this sometime in future. I have to purchase a juicer first. I'd like to hear more about those chia seed crackers please!

Mickey,
That's great. I feel so good after a juice (I have one every evening), I barely need dinner. They really can be a meal replacer. My 8 yr old son is addicted!! He pulls out the machine and all the fruit and veggies, then the kids fight over who can put each piece in the machine. My 5 yo daughter still won't drink most juices. Not sure if it's a texture thing or what, and she could really use the nutrients...she's my carb addict!

For those interested, good juicers are no longer as expensive as they used to be. I bought my Breville Juice Fountain for $150 on sale at Macy's. There are other brands with the same centrifugal juicing mechanism that go for $100. I would skip the $30 Black and Decker varieties. Amazon carries most of them at department store sale prices.
