I would think so, though that's probably an uncommon presentation. Thrush is due to Candida in the mouth, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the rest of the GI tract is affected.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Jenny,
I've wondered the same thing, since I only had one infection in my life, and it was back in high school. Someone told me systemic candida and vaginal yeast infections are totally unrelated. Not sure I buy that. I do know the pill changes your sugar and fat metabolism and makes your body more hospitable to yeast, so my 10 years on the pill may be related to whatever crap I have going on now...which I hesitate to even put a label on anymore. I am totally clueless about all this autoimmune randomness happening to me. So many theories, no smoking gun. Is this all just after-effects of leaky gut? :???:

Yes I have sleep apnea. In 1999 I was falling asleep at my desk even when people where in my office talking. I was grouchy and could sleep 20 hrs a day. They put me on medical and thought I was depressed and all sorts of stuff. I tried to tell them NO I was just so tired. I also had sinus surgery and they removed my tonsils and uvula because I did snore so much and always woke up feeling like a sore throat and tired. FINALLY someone listened to me....they did a sleep test and I was a new person instantly with a CPAP machine. I could be the poster child for them. I'm a true believer in using it and do NOT go anywhere without it. I actually thought while reading these posts wondering if maybe a sleep test needs completed. It is amazing the way your body feels when you get GOOD sleep as opposed to not so good sleep(even though you think you are). Thanks for bringing that up.

Jenny, I had a white film on my tongue for many years and suspected candida. I don't have it anymore and I think it changed after I'd been eating a low carb diet for a while and must have starved out the yeast as Tex mentioned. Deb

I find it amazing that a day time shallow breather wouldn't have sleep apnea too. But if one isn't tired and can think straight one probably doesn't have it. But it's sure something to be kept in the back of one's mind. Usually a bed partner discovers it and says to you, "Boy, you stop breathing during the night a lot" or "You sure snore a lot."

I have sleep apnea too but as I'm improving with my thyroid hormones I'm using my CPAP less and less. I think my nasal passages have been swollen and the hormones have helped reduce that. Deb

@Jenny....did you get better after stopping birth control? I have been taking them now for 15 years and I'm 45. Are you the one who went into remission after getting off birth control? I'm scared to get off them as my periods will be too heavy and I'll become anemic again, but if they are causing gut issues, I want go get off them. I guess I'll only know if I try.

@Leah....I had my first case of a vaginal bacterial infection last October (think they called it Vaginosis). I read up on it and it said there was an imbalance of the good and bad bacteria. Then 5 months later I get LC! I wonder if the two are related. If I do have some kind of gut dsbyosis, I would think I would need some probiotics right away. Ahhh....so frustrating. I see the doctor in October and will ask about Candida among other things.

BTW....I also have hypothyroidism. I've noticed my breathing patterns are different....hard to describe. I'm definitely a shallow breather. Ya know, if I end up with another autoimmune disease I'm going to lose it!

I was on the pill from age 14 to 29 bc of my heavy periods and endometriosis. I thought that all of my gut issues and D were a result of being on the pill that long so I stopped. Surprisingly enough, my periods haven't been too bad. My doctor actually told me that being on a gluten free diet helps a lot in normalizing your periods. So I have been off the pill for a few months but, I still have my gut issues :/
In all honesty, I'm glad im off of it, I have heard good and bad things but, since i do plan on having children one day I decided to start normalizing my body

Jenny- I believe I had candida issues. I never took anything for it but believe it has resolved after becoming GF/DF/SF/EF. There was nothing left with sugar to eat except the sugars in fruit in which I'm limited too. I agree with Tex, it doesn't clear overnight. I compare it to a nicotine addition. I could never understand how my husband struggled with quitting smoking many years ago. I've never smoked and never got the craving thing. I used to have the absolute worst cravings ever. The process of eliminating gluten from my diet was a horrible experience. I never had the immediate feeling of improved health and to this day can't say that I feel great for the things I've given up but continue because I know I have no choice. I cried in the grocery store, at the dinner table, found myself circling the kitchen opening cupboard doors looking for something to eat (actually, I still do that) as if something would magically appear the next time I opened the door, and fighting sweets & bread cravings. I ate dessert first, just in case I would get full and not have room for it. I also lost my ability to feel full and fell victim to it. I always knew I had a problem but just didn't have the will power to do something about it. I paid the price for it too. I also took birth control pills for somewhere around 15 years. I've always wondered if that contributed to my CC along with the huge amounts of ibuprofin I used to take for migraines (6 at a time & it never touched it). It's too bad I didn't have this knowledge then.

Thanks Jenny and good luck!!

Gosh, DebE, I can so relate to everything you are saying. Gluten free has helped with my stomach pains and maybe has decreased the D but that's about it. Well I suppose it has gotten rid of my palpitations, restless leg and jaw pain. I thought going GF was pretty easy only because I was replacing the gluten stuff with GF processed junky stuff so was still getting the carbs and sugars and basically still not eating well. I think I crave sweets so much because of my anti-depressant I take, Amitriptlyine, which one of the side effects is increased appetite especially for sweets. I could sit and binge on them for 30 minutes nonstop. Probably why I have the problem I have today with LC and all. I also took a lot of aspirin and Advil over the years but had stopped them somewhat in the last year. I haven't cried as of yet cause I'm still eating GF packaged foods like pasta and bread cause I'm so paranoid of weight loss right now. If I had a lot more pounds on me, I would do the bone broth for a week but that would probably kill me now. But I do often look in the pantry for something that just isn't there. I have been guilty of overdoing the corn chips lately just because I'm sooo dang hungry and they are in the house and I'll eat the whole bag in two days. There isn't many in there to begin with. Once I get off of Pepto I won't be able to do that but at least I'll have a few more pounds on me. I don't know if I react to corn or not but I know those chips aren't good for me.

But I have to say this and I know it's gonna sound pitiful but I miss my sweets so much that I'm actually loving sucking on these Pepto tablets. They are sooo good to me and gives me just enough sweet stuff to get me through the day. I never thought I'd say that Pepto is my snack but it is!! I actually look forward to eating it every day. Yep.....very weird!! I'm gonna miss them when I'm done with my 8 weeks!!

Yes....if we only had this knowledge back then.
