Shirley,
If the sidutation weren't so serious, it would be very funny. Our local, state, and national officials kept preaching for everyone to get out, and then, when everyone tried to get out, and pulled an Archie Bunker on the highways. (everbody trying to get through the door at the same time), our exhaulted officials stood slack-jawed, in disbelief, claiming that they didn't expect that kind of response. Well DUH! Further evidence that our "leaders" don't have the foggiest idea what they are doing, a high percentage of the time.
Sally,
That was a really bad situation, all right. One would think that they would have oxygen level monitors, (leak detectors), in a bus like that, but I guess it was an extremely rare event. That doesn't make it any less tragic, though.
I'm amazed that there haven't been huge numbers of traffic accidents, but through the worst of it, traffic was moving so slowly that no one could get up enough speed to do much damage.
I couldn't help but laugh at the TV commentators and reporters, who stated that everyone was rushing out of Galveston, Houston, or wherever, ( I can't remember the word they usually used, but it indicated leaving at a very high rate of speed), and then the cameras would show a highway jammed full of gridlocked cars and trucks, not evern moving at all. LOL.
Love,
Wayne

We have been getting reports of what is happening here too. Unbelievable Didn't hear about the bus. What happened? Biggest traffic jam I have everv seen. See what you mean about the 'rushing' Wayne. I expect the authorities will have to sit down and think about action plans just in case it ever happens again.
Take care

Wayne,
The "high rate of speed" brings to mind the oxymoron of the "high speed chase" we all witnessed on national TV with a *well-known celebrity* quite a few years ago. Reporters - they cause more chaos than they help sometimes, don't they. I am often amazed at what comes out of their mouths.
I am praying for everyone in harms way and hope the catastrophies end soon. I have been watching the news about the bus fire, traffic jams and lack of gas all day and am now watching the levee's failing. Sigh.......
Stay safe everyone.

Liz, apparently a bus with evacuees from a nursing home blew up right in the middle of the monster traffic jam killing all 24 people aboard. Something about a spark setting off the oxygen tanks some of the patients were using. Isn't that horrible?? Imagine being in the vehicle behind the bus...

Oh Sally that is just so horrible. As if things were not bad enough without a tragedy like that. Those poor people. were there any survivors at all. I expect that it would be impossible to get to any injured people under the circumstances. This situation with the log jam of traffic seems to be almost as bad as the problems with the hurricane itself.
