Leah,
I was taking a teaspoon a day in water for a while. At first I thought it helped, then I wasn't so sure, but it didn't seem to hurt. I stopped simply because I'm on too many pills and supplements now. But I feel I should start again since the prednisone seems to be affecting my muscles -- I'm getting slowly weaker. Since bodybuilders take it for muscle recovery, some people take it to relieve steroid-induced myopathy.

Since you don't seem to respond negatively, it's worth a try Zizzle. Let me know if it seems to work for muscle weakness... although atrophy is atrophy :(

Just came across this is a forum post. Don't know who the author is, so can't verify facts, but it's interesting...I get major carb cravings around PMS time. It's one of the main reasons I haven't gone grain-free yet (although I plan to, probably this month).
In my experience, avoiding excessive fructose mainly from sugar and HFCS and high glycemic carbohydrates mainly from grains is a very effective treatment for PMS. Patients with PMS typically crave sweet and starchy foods and we now know such cravings are an early symptom of a type of food-induced brain dysfunction called Carbohydrate Associated Reversible Brain syndrome or CARB syndrome. Because of these cravings women with PMS end up eating more of the very food that is frying their brain.

I have found the amino acid L-glutamine to be a very effective and safe way to reduce such cravings.

Zizzle,

Isn't the poster a Dr. Wilson, in Minnesota?

Hmmm, I was thinking about L-Glutamine. The product I have is 4500mg per teaspoon. I thought it might be helpful but now I'm afraid it will rock the fragile boat I'm riding in :???:

L-Glutamine is a tough one. I used it religiously for the first six months, but for some reason, after I was completely off Entocort, I felt like it was hindering me. I was having a hard time choking it down and my gut was feeling "weird" right after, so I stopped.

L.glutamine questionable

Post by wmonique2 »

Leah,

I just stopped taking it. I've been taking it for like almost 2 years. I am not sure it did anything since I take meds...ran out of it and decided to go without. Like you said, I am taking enough stuff already. I can't say whether it helps or not...and didn't notice any changes since I stopped. I took 3 pills a day/500mg each.

Thanks.

Wow! This is startling. I take 1000 twice a day. Going to rethink this also. Thanx Leah for the heads up.

I was fine with it for a while and I think it helped but then I started to feel a strange clogging in my esophagus. The feeling went away when I discontinued it.

I HAD TO LOOK BACK ON WHAT I HAD SAID JON. WHAT I MEANT BY THAT IS THAT WHEN WE DON'T USE OUR MUSCLES AND THEY SHRINK, WEAKNESS WILL NATURALLY OCCUR.

Apparently, I can't take L--glutamine. The naturopath prescribed it for me. I took it for a couple of days and reacted with gas and diarrhea. So I thought I'd try every other day and reacted the first day. So there's another expensive supplement just taking up room in my cupboard...

Hi, Thank you Leah. I agree, exercise is extremely important to keep the muscles. But, their are many reasons that cause muscle weakness and atrophy. Jon
