once you find your 'safe' meal - things get a heap easier!
stick to the safe meal for a few days (or a few weeks) even though my MC is in remission, when i am feeling poorly i always revert back to eating my safe meal for a few days.
it is easy to digest, nuturing, low inflammation healing. keep the ingredient amounts low, small serves often and your body will thank you!

Hello tex, sorry to be such a bother,
I have been on a minimal diet for the las week, the last 3 days I have had rice bananas and chicken and rice soup, my d can't get any worse, not sure how long I should keep doing this or if I should go off rice and try something else. I see aGI doc Monday, I would love to get through the weekend feeling a little better.
Thank you for your time

Hi Daina,
It can take weeks or months to see relief if the intestinal damage is extensive, because of years of symptoms. If I were in that situation I would avoid the bananas for a while and switch from chicken to turkey — a few people react to bananas and chicken. A rice sensitivity is possible, but it's the least likely possibility. Sometimes people in that situation can see improvement on a bland diet within a matter of days, but it often takes weeks or even months, because the intestines heal slowly from the damage that is associated with MC. IOW, if you've had this disease for years, remission is almost surely not going to happen within only a few days of treatment.
Most of us can use Imodium to slow down the frequency and the urgency of bowel movements, so you might try that, if you aren't already using it. Minimizing stress may help as much as anything. If you want to try something that seems far-fetched (but often works) try taking an antihistamine.
If there is blood in your stool, and/or you have severe pain and cramping, or fever, you might have another C. diff infection.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi Daina. I know that you are skeptical about using drugs because the ones the doc has been giving you gave you C-Dif... right? Just know that those were antibiotics. When you go see you GI on Monday, you might want to ask about Entocort ( budesonide). It just seems like you are having a really hard time with getting the D under control. This drug has helped so many of us get our lives back.... or ask him about doing the Pepto Bismul treatment. Some here have had great success with that also. Remember that this will take time and the drugs just help you get through the worst of it while you adjust your diet.
Good luck
Leah

Daina (pretty name),
I went on the chicken soup and rice diet until I got the results from my tests, and discovered that I am sensitive to chicken and rice more than anything else!
If you find that you are NOT improving with the rice and soup method do try something else.
For me lamb, beef and pork are the meats I can eat, and white fish. Salmon, unfortunately, doesn't suit me.
I make stock from bones and cook the meat with the stock to give it flavor. There are a gazillion recipes on this forum if you need them.
Good luck!
