Hi, Lady, and welcome.

About HRT: I tried to go off it about 5 years ago, and I believe it was that attempt that triggered my MC. I took some herbal supplements which I researched well ahead of time, but I had never had any digestive issues, so I didn't think to research any digestive ramifications of the herbs.

After going off the HRT, my menopausal symptoms came back full-force; worse than they had ever been. And by then I had MC, although I didn't yet know it. I went back on HRT, and am very glad I did.

People have such a range of symptoms, from basically nothing to terrible hot flashes, awful mood swings, depression, etc., that I think each woman has to decide with her doctor whether her symptoms call for medication. My quality of life was pretty much non-existent, so for me medication has been a real blessing.

Jon, yes I have heard, and think Tex may have addressed in his book (which I really need to re-visit) that smoking seems to provide some weird protection against MC. But I'm still glad I quit. And I'm not kidding when I say that I have not craved a cigarette one time since taking Chantix; it totally shut down the nicotine receptors.

Leah, while visiting my sister in the Atlanta area last spring, we went to a Lebanese restaurant. I found plenty of good choices, and the owners/waitstaff knew their GF/DF stuff; I had no problem after. I have had much more success eating GF/DF at small, local, ethnic restaurants than at the nationwide chains, though they're getting better. I'm actually starting to believe that I could travel to places like Portugal or Peru, for instance, and not have to worry a lot about finding things to eat. Very encouraging!

Does anyone know anything about or has taken Diamine Oxidase to block histamines from food? I would love to know if you have had any success? I just saw a youtube about the enzyme and how many people lack the ability to breakdown histamines from foods. He seemed to suggest that many digestive health issues can be helped by supplementing this enzyme. Any experience out there?
