Hi,

I would be interested if Jean and Tex would look at the ingredients of:

Thorne Research Methylguard Plus.

I couldn't figure out how to link it here, sorry....

The amount of ingredients are a bit different, but the price difference is beneficial if The balance is acceptable. I would appreciate your input.

I've looked at it before and I think the ratios are really close and should probably be just fine. Tex would know better than I do. The reason I decided not to try it is because I always had some other supplements on hand that I then would not be able to use so I stuck with buying them separately. For me the price comes out pretty much the same.

Hi Lori,

It appears to contain roughly a fourth less B-6, but it contains 50 % more B-12. The Folate is in a slightly different form, but it should be absorbed just as well as the form in Metanx. All in all, I agree with Jean that it should work just as well, for all practical purposes. The cost seems to be not too much different from the cost of using individual ingredients, (which is significantly cheaper than Metanx), and it should be much more convenient to use than using several individual products.

So it appears to be a good choice.

Change of plans....I am ordering Jean's mixture. It will give me more flexibility if I need to adjust anything as I get used to it. Sometimes (most of the time lately) my system is sensitive to things. It is worth a few extra bucks!

Because of thyroid issues, I did the 23andme.com genetic test to see if I have the MTHFR mutation. Yes, indeed--I have double mutations in almost all the MTHFR permutations except the one that increases the level of homocysteine. That's a blessing.

So the naturopath has me on the methyl form of a number of B vitamins. There is one combination, B12 Folate, that I take from Pure Encapsulations like Jean. It's the only one I've found that has the L-5-MTHF form of folate and methylcobalamin instead of cyanocobalamin. It's not very expensive, thankfully.

Hi Marliss,

Interesting that both of us have posted on this mutation in the past couple of days. My daughter has a double mutation of the a1298c gene. Just posted on this today. Perhaps this is a key link for some of us.
