That incident was years ago, not now, sorry. Really only one terrible episode.

I had nausea and vomiting…often

Post by GRB »

when my MC was active…sometimes I had to use the trash can as I sat on the toilet because both ends were active…(this is the only place I could say anything like that)..

I also have hiccups…a lot of long duration hiccups…what's that about. I don't get them very often now that I'm doing so much better but they were a symptom.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. I had the same problem with simultaneous explosions at both ends a number of times back when I was reacting.

Do the hiccups show up when you're hungry? One time when I was going through all the tests at the clinic, I decided not to eat anything for 2 weeks, because of tests that required a cleanout prep (I was hoping to be able to skip the second cleanout, but I didn't get away with that anyway). During those 2 weeks, I ate only clear jello, water, Seven-up and Sprite. Of course I lost a lot of weight, and was down to hide and bones by the end of the period, but the biggest problem was recurring hiccups that would last for hours and hours, no matter what I did. Apparently they require more energy than meets the eye, because they were very tiring after a while.

Sitting in a waiting room at the hospital, hiccuping like mad, with everyone staring at me was more than a little embarrassing. I'm not sure if the hiccups were due to hunger, an empty stomach, a nutrient or electrolyte deficiency, or something else, but as soon as I started eating again (after the second test), the hiccups were no longer a problem.

I'm in good company then Tex  I honestly didn't expect anyone to recognize the hiccups as something to deal with. I know all about not eating so it's possible that was the cause. Eating and food were the enemy back then, talk about frantic!

I'm reading your most excellent book Tex and it brings back so much of what we all go through trying to learn to live with this disease. I felt again the anger I felt when my gastro told me to ""learn to live" with explosive, uncontrollable diarrhea as if anyone could…the same Dr told me that I didn't have to be so strict about diet when I told him how I was learning to control my disease. Your admonitions to remain calm and polite are warranted…he also thought wearing diapers was an answer….all I said was "Easy for you to say."

Your book will help so many Tex and I thank you again for putting it all together. Oh and easy to read! Way to go guy!! :bouncing:

Gay,

I suppose that doctors have to learn to turn off their empathy for their patients, otherwise the frustration of so many unresolved cases might eventually force them to leave the profession. But they could at least pretend to be sympathetic. That would surely gain them a lot of patient respect.

I appreciate your kind remarks about the book. The support and encouragement of the members of this discussion board initially convinced me to start writing, and then kept me going when I needed additional inspiration.

Thanks.

I too vomit when I am in flare up! Usually it is in the mornings! I try to eat breakfast but I get up at 6am and leave the house at 7am so usually I don't breakfast until 7:45am when I get to work. If I try and eat earlier I throw up! My body just does not accept food until it is fully woken up!
