Sleep problems?

I am being treated for adrenal fatigue, and my repeated waking in the night, and/or being awake for hours has just about gone away. I take 5HTP about 6pm, then L-Theanine, SeriPhos, and N-Acetyl Cystine at bedtime.

I have the same prednisone issues too. I have never gotten good sleep since I took it in the summer of 2011 through February 2012. I would have thought I would have recovered from that but for whatever reason, it messed up my sleep and I've never been the same. It's possible it's not related but that's what sticks out in my mind.

I'm up numerous times during the night and still wear earplugs every night because even hearing my husband breathe keeps me up and I'm not taking up residence in the guest room. It also doesn't help having two cats in bed either but it's a party in the bed every night. My husband is a snow plow driver and with all the snow we've been having we all got reprogrammed for the 4AM wake up call. Even now when it doesn't snow the cats are the alarm clock- they think it's time to eat. :lol:

I love your definition of cats — it's right on target. They might pretend that they don't know anything else, but they aren't bashful at all about demonstrating that they always know when it's time to eat. :lol:

Gabes...I do occasionally have main meal at lunch & a lighter one for dinner...tonight for example. I think I'll do that more often.


Update.....A friend who is a Nutritionist told me about a Homeopathic product, Calm Forte', which I tried last night when I woke at 1:30. I went right back to sleep & slept till 7 ! This is promising.

I started with marijuana a few weeks ago, indica type, for the pain from my broken back and ruptured disks. Basically it doesn't reduce the pain per se, but it does help me to sleep. I don't take it every night, only when a) the pain is really keeping me awake or b) when I wake up and can't go back to sleep. A puff or 2, or, with the stuff I bought today, a spray or 2 into my mouth puts me back to sleep. I have to be careful not to do too much or I don't wake up!

Pets- they drive you nuts but I don't know what I'd do without them! My only son went off to college this year but I still have two perpetual two year olds in the house. :lol:

Sunny and Ob Mr. Fix it,

I suffered from the waking up at 2:00 am for like 9 months and also some nights 3:30 then 4:30. I felt like I was in a prisoner of war camp.

James Wilson's Adrenal Fatigue book helped but it took about a year to find out what would work for me. (After trying about 12 various things which were not effective.)

My routine:

9:00 pm I take 2 250 mg magnesium citrate
I take 1 seriphos
I take 1 L theanine

I sleep in a blackened room.

I have a glass of water by my bed and 1 L theanine tablet. If I wake up I take 1 L theanine and I'm asleep in about 15 minutes.

If I'm on a business trip I take 2 benedryls instead of the 9:00 pm L theanine.

I had 3 really great months of perfect sleep then had work stress so I'm waking up some now. Stress also plays a big roll. Off to do some yoga.

I've been taking the 5HTP at bedtime, will try taking it earlier... and never heard of SeriPhos & N-Acetyl Crystine! Thanx for this...

Brandy.... I will look for that book by Wilson....and I see you & Marliss have both discovered seriphos & L theanine .... I'll have to check this out... thanx for your additional info....

Hormones wreak havoc on me, but when those are steady, my sleep gets better. I have to say though, that now that I am taking benadryl each night, I'm sleeping like a baby :)

So, since we're talking about sleep, and phosphatidylserine (seriphos), I'm curious if anyone has had a backwards reaction to phosphatidylserine? I had a cortisol test, and started phosphatidylserine. I absolutely did NOT sleep. It was like I had 10 cups of coffee or something--elevated heart rate, buzzing head, etc. Of course, I stopped taking it.

I started taking 10 mg of elavil 20+ years ago for sleep and FMS/chronic pain but switched to pamelor (same family) which I found to have much less in the way of side effects - I'm sure I have mast cell issues too. I also just did a urine neurotransmitter test through my functional med dr. that showed I was high in 2 transmitters. I have started taking a supplement called Kavinace and my sleep has definately improved. My worst nights have always been in reaction to something I ate that evening but that has improved with the Kavinace and diet changes. I am expecting my enterolab test kit any day so I hope to fine tune that!
