Gabes, yes, I plan on testing my children. Can't decide which one to start with, but probably one still at home. My son (who is 27 today) and his wife don't think that genetics is that important. Which is true. Genetics supposedly only counts as one-third of the susceptibility, with diet and environment accounting for the other two-thirds. My daughter-in-law's family has multiple food issues, so I fear for my grandchildren. But it's not my decision. All I can do is make myself available for questions, which I have. And my son is starting to ask them.

My 36yo daughter (Lauren, who is a member of the forum) has autoimmune hepatitis, but struggles with eating the way she should due to extenuating circumstances. She may do her own testing, at some point.

Anyway... I know my 15yo has issues. We almost lost her at not-quite three years old, and I believe that triggered things. She has had problems with ADD and food ever since then. I may start with my 19yo who just started nursing school. She is gluten-free but more because I want her to be than any conviction on her part. I suspect hypothyroid issues with her as she sleeps a lot and is almost always cold so I am planning on testing for that as well.

even without testing, encouraging the use of Vit D3, magnesium, Vit C, Zinc supplementation will help all of them...

Like anything with parenting, all you can do is pass on the information, values, ethics etc and what the children do is kinda out of your control. ( you just cross your fingers and hope the river dont rise!)

Yes, we do all but the zinc. I've kinda gotten away from it, so thanks for reminding me.

Your comment about the VDR led me to look at my results and do a little research on the web. It turns out that my one mutation in that gene makes it less able to curb the double mutation I have in my COMT gene, which is one of the genes responsible for mood swings, ADD, etc. Oh joy...lol. I always knew I was a little strange.

At least with the gene test results, you have a scientific reason 'why'

I am still at the theory of I must have been abducted by aliens and they reprogrammed my immune system....

Hope to discuss MTHFR testing with my new GI tomorrow. I really hope that she's open minded and willing to help me find some balance. I am amazed at the big brain on you guys. So much I am just so clueless about. I hope that I can find a way to heal. found this article about MTHFR thought it was interesting. Thanks so much for sharing Gabes! Your mind is AWESOME!!

Martha
I wish my mind was half as good as Tex and Polly.

i have had digestion issues my whole life, i have used diet management, herbal tonics, acupuncture, for 14 years
one of my dearest friends is a naturopath, and she too has gut issues, we have both spent many years researching gut health.

My MC diagnosis in 2009 was a relief and a bit of a celebration, the 3 years prior to that of nigglying issues were finally explained.

I have spent as much time as I could in the past 4.5 years researching digestion/inflammation/adrenal/immune system
my dear friend the naturopath and my acupuncturist both researched digestion/leaky gut etc etc, then add in the learnings of the wonderful people here and we had a collaborative approach to my treatment and eating plan

Give it time, once you get the inflammation down, get some energy and focus back, you will achieve the same if not more!
