Thanks for all the suggestions. Carol, I have had a more than few instances of fear running through my body followed by trips to the bathroom. I am always hyper vigilant when I travel as it seems to hit me then. My GI ft. Told me to take an Imodium before I went out to eat as I had built up a fear of an "incident" after 2 explosive issues. I did that until I built my confidence and now (knock on wood) I don't have a need for it. I have thought a lot about the stress part of this as I am a "look cool on the outside but a mess on the inside kind of person" . I am interested in the Vit D suggestion and may try to take a few more this summer as I have travels coming up. I try to eat very conservatively when I travel and just a small amount every couple of hours. I continue to experiment with a proactive life style and am really interested in different suggestions. I like Polly's idea of adamant self talk and I will try it when I am alone in the car. I probably will not use it in airports however as that might bring me a whole set of new issues!!!! :oops:

HI Jeane-- lol-- we do need to be selective when doing self- talk out loud. Being carted off by airport security would certainly be more stress inducing than the travel itself.

Hi, The self talk could result in a police check. I pulled into a small mall parking lot to answer a phone call, since I was alone I put the phone on speaker. After, approx fifteen minutes the police were at my window checking me out. License and registration, before giving them the information I asked why are you here " They said someone called and reported somebody talking by himself" They did not see the cell phone because it was on the bashboard. Well, this may not seem germane, but this doctor, Scott Brady wrote a book called Pain Free for Life. He has all sorts of spine damage and at about 30 years old was told that he had the spine of an 80-year-old and was going to have a life of pain and disability. He is pain free and has no disability. His theory is that we may have pain from damaged joints, muscles, or other parts of our bodies that's not real. His theory is that our subconscious tries to protect us from the pain of a certain situation by giving us pain in a part of our body where it makes sense to have pain, like a damaged joint. He says we can talk to our subconscious (self talk) and order it to stop causing pain to try to protect us, that we want to feel the pain of the situation instead. Sounds a little crazy, I know. But I've tried it and it works. I've wondered if it would work with gut issues, too, and since people are talking about self-talk and gut issues here, I thought I would throw this into it.
