Yeah, Christine - I'm sorry too

I thought about the many salads too and the dressings. Have you tried making your own dressing? It's easy and fast to make a good oil/vinegar dressing w/slt/pepper/garlic.

Here is a little insight for you, based on my experiences:

Even better would probably be if you could try a week or two w/o any raw veggies - just cooked veggies. Does it sound yukkie (sp?) to you? I almost had a fit when I realized that I had to stop eating raw veggies in an attempt to get better. Now I have healed enough that I can eat a small salad (w/ home made dressing) once or twice a week w/o problems.

It's a good idea to buy a bunch of bags of frozen veggies to keep at hand. They don't require any preparation time and they stay "fresh" for weeks in the freezer - take it out and use the amount you need. I usually steam them in a skillet with the lid on - I often toss the veggies right into the skillet with the meat or meat drippings - great for flavor.

It's really hard to begin to eat as "simple" as is required in order to get better control and lesser symptoms - but it is very rewarding. You've probably forgotten how it is to feel good?!

I hope you are feeling better today. Let's know how we can help you.

Love,
Karen

breakfast (5am): peaches (canned in peach juice)

snack: honey roasted peanuts, free of corn products.

BM (9:22am): semi-formed tissuey BM, VERY painful, felt like I'm crapping BRICKS :(

symptoms immediately increased after lunch - tight, cramping feeling in lower stomach, painful colon spasms.

BM (3pm): Gas followed the pain immediately and immediately following that, a quick trip to the bathroom for some diarrhea. VERY PAINFUL. I am NOT a happy camper. Maybe the peanuts???

snack (6pm): rice cereal

dinner (9pm): threw a bunch of stuff in a skillet - chicken, garlic, olive oil, onion, mushrooms, carrots, pea pods, potato chunks.

OVERALL SYMPTOMS TODAY:
very robust abdominal pain, located in one specific area sofar
back pain is pretty sharp too
elbow pain is bad today, but then I was doing laundry last night and dishes

Wayne and Karen,

I'm going to try going without corn or corn derivitives (sp?) for awhile, see how that goes. It's going to be VERY difficult for me, considering all of my limitations. I will try to stick with cooked veggies or at least not SO MANY salads, but I'm going to try cutting out corn first, and see if that helps. Wish me luck!!! Any other suggestions/ideas are MUCH appreciated!!!! As for salad dressing, as far as I can see, my french dressing is "safe".. it has vinegar, but I've seen documentation that vinegar is safe and none to prove otherwise, unless you have something.. I will try getting rid of my salad dressing next tho.

Tell me this, Karen, so with leaving corn syrup out .. you don't drink any soda either?? What do you drink all day? Just curious, because soda is of course "easy" and convenient, and I'm looking for a "replacement".

Ah, Christine - you probably won't like the response but you are right, I don't drink any soda.

I drink water, tea, and decaf coffee. I don't use sweeteners in any of my drinks. Occasionally I drink 1/2 a small glass of fruit juice - it has to be natural w/o any vitamins or anything else added. Apple Cider is good in the winter.

A safe brand of ketchup is Muir Glen brand (HF store product). It doesn't have corn either.

Karen

Hi Christine

How do you get by with just peaches in the AM? I get so hungry if I don't eat more breakfast. Can't understand why you are still having D. Sounds like your diet is pretty good. But what do I know LOL. I'm posting here too. :yikes: Love & light, Rita

Lol you two are cute :)

I like responses to my journal.. at least I know someone's looking, and knowledge sharing is great :) Until this, we probably had NO idea what each others' daily diets were like.. this is a wonderful tool

Anyway, I get by because nothing is better than something, in my little world. I've started thinking of food as only a means of survival, but hopefully now that I have that cookbook, I can start to eat more food and more diversified foods. I guess I'd like to peg down all of my allergies and rid them from my diet, and maybe achieve remission before I throw a bunch of other foods into my diet, but I MISS food, you know??? lol

Now, BEFORE colitis (BC), I could never survive on peaches alone. I needed food EVERY 2 hours at least, or I'd nearly pass out. Seriously..

Anyway, the rice cereal really ties me over. I would probably snack on it all day long if I had enough of it, but I only bring a little baggie full to work and snack at my desk. I get really busy at work, so sometimes I don't end up snacking on it at all, and then I get a bit hungry, but that's just work, you know? At my job, I really don't have a schedule.. it's as the calls come in, and working on other calls that require more research in the interim.. sometimes I'll have 30+ active calls that I'm working on.. it's really ridiculous. I'm working toward a promotion here in about a month, and hopefully after that, I'll have a bit more time for snacking on my hands, as I won't be on the phones all the time, I'd be the 2nd level support that doesn't have to take incoming calls. So as I'm testing and researching, I can snack. That's a good thing...

I can't understand why I'm still having D either.. I WAS on a pretty good roll there for awhile, getting Norman at least every other day or so. Tho he hurt me, he was pretty welcome.. diarrhea leaves me with MORE pain than Norman does..

Anyway, take care :)
