methylation issues is a new thing we (those on the PP Forum) have just started to explore -
in the past 2 years or so, MTHFR gene mutations namely C677 and A1298 have been linked to AI issues and people with multiple health issues / chronic health issues.
Expanding on this, it is known by some nutritionists, wholistic doctors, other practitioners, that if symptoms do not resolve with normal protocols then there are further methylation issues.
As mentioned thus far there are no reliable published studies or readily available text book type info to guide us. There are a few wholistic doctors, some in the thyroid area that have been researching and figuring out the methylation maze and how it is linked to symptoms and health issues.
aspects of it are mentioned in some books and articles i have found, as I have been researching cell health. There is no 'one stop shop' to find the info.
because of this, we are all sharing links and valid info to help each other..
I am very confident that ongoing mast cells issues are linked to methylation issues.
and I suspect that for the few, that can not get reduction in inflammation via high doses of Vit D, strict diet, antihistamines, etc that methylation issues are a key factor. especially if there has been chronic inflammation (not just MC) for long period of time
in saying that, it is not the be all end all, and not necessarily for everyone.
For those people under age 50, that have been struggling health wise, trying to work, raise families, want to achieve maximum wellness so they can work another 15-30 years, then exploring if they have methylation issues may well provide key info to tweak their diet/supplement regime and achieve maximum wellness...
There are some that are content with how things are....
not sure how it is in the USA, but things like MTHFR mutations are not widely known, acknowledged in the medical system here in Aus. Only specialised doctors and wholistic practitioners are encouraging the testing and providing guidance. As the "proven to work" treatment protocols are supplement and diet based, it is unlikely to get credibility in mainstream medicine in my lifetime. (because Big Pharma can not profit from it!)
I am very lucky i have found an affordable doctor that is knowledgeable. in some cities finding a doctor/pracitioner can be hard, as they are rare they tend to be expensive (some here in Aus charge $300 per appointment) and have long waiting lists (3-5month wait to be a new patient)
my suggestion has been, if you have multiple AI issues, and/or struggling to attain wellness, then doing this type of testing may well provide key guidance as to the why.
as they are gene mutations, if you do the tests and you have key mutations, if you are worried about your children having the same health issues, then getting children tested and making diet/supplement changes as early as possible will have a high chance of protecting them from chronic illness.
hope this helps..

Thank you so much for the detailed information, Gabes!!!
I still feel like I have only discovered the tip of the iceberg with everything relating to MC....
About the vitamins and minerals. I called different companies:
Healthy Origins vitamin D3 made from Lanolin also contains beef (like the one from NOW foods that I already have)
Freeda: the vitamin D3 does not contain beef or any other foods, yay!
Regarding the Freeda multivitamin that I wanted to order they said that the vitamin C is derived from corn and the vitamin E is derived from soy. They say that there is no soy left in the final product and that it depends on the severity of my allergy whether I would still react to that. They were very nice and offered to send me a sample so I could try. They also said that chelated minerals usually use foods for the chelation process.
Do you think that those would be safe to take?

Patricia,
I could be wrong, but I doubt that you will find a multivitamin free of soy and corn, unless you locate one that does not contain vitamin C and vitamin E, because in this country, virtually all vitamin C is derived from corn, and most vitamin E is derived from soy.
Love,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thanks, Tex.
I learn so much every day on here!
Freeda is shipping me a sample of the vitamin D3 and the multivitamin. I will give it a try while still on the very strict elimination diet and I won't make any diet changes while trying out the samples. That way I should be able to tell if it affects me in any way, hopefully!

As tex mentions getting soy free Vit E is not easy.
That is why I am doing my supps as all separates....
Only way to ensure it is gluten, dairy, soy free.
That is great they sent you samples!
Hope they are ok for you.
