I think that we all have to make decisions about our teeth based on individual circumstances. I have/had a number of mercury fillings from childhood. They were beginning to crumble. I have only ever had one root canal many years ago which has never given me trouble. The only teeth that have ever been pulled are my wisdom teeth. I chose to have crowns put in, about 5 in about 10 years. I have a very skilled dentist who I trust. The crowns have not caused me any trouble. I know I can't predict the future but so far so good. I also have never had significant dental problems but my gums used to be mildly inflamed. I think my now pristine diet and the resulting remission have benefited my dental health because my mouth is in better shape than it ever has been. My gums are not inflamed at all. It may just be that I am lucky and have been blessed with good teeth. Hard to know but for me the crowns were a good option. If I had chosen to have all the crowned teeth pulled instead I would look something like a jack-lantern and consequently be dealing with dentures or somesuch other thing. There just never seem to be any hard and fast rules about these things. Of course it would have been much better if I had never developed any cavities in the first place but nothing I can do about that now. Sometimes there just aren't any perfect options so you have to weigh the pros and cons and then decide.
