That's what I was thinking of, Erica. OK, next time you see a discount for 23andME, let me know. I am retired and money is very very tight.

Gail
when i did the 23andme testing, i was on welfare and money was very tight, I had a birthday coming up and I asked people rather than spend $5 on a card or other money on presents, could they donate to my dna testing fund.
I got half the money i needed (the testing is more expensive from Australia as you have to pay $80 for international freight both ways)

Also - did you see my last PM message to you? I think one of your current meds is causing the MC issues and that is why the strict diet is not working...
i sent it 18 June.

HI Gail,
I know the 4th they had a sale, it is only the 12th now...there was a code FAB4TH that gave 20% off, you could try inputting that into the check out to see if it is still valid. I can keep my eyes open and I'll check my email as I get other notices. I suspect the next coupon code will be for Labor Day time period.

Hi Erica. I know your offer was made to Gail, but I'm hoping you'll give me some help too when I get my 23andme results. I just sent my spit off today and can't wait to see what I can learn from them. I guess it will be many weeks from now before I get results. If I understand correctly, there are several different data bases to hook up with for help in reading the results. Yes?

Thank you,
Laura

PS: I like your new picture. You look happy!

Certainly Laura :-) Will be happy to help you with links and such when you get your results. I'm still a newbie with interpretations so will only share what bits an pieces I have gleamed so far.

Thank you, I am doing pretty good at the moment ;-) I had a 12 hour set back after the concert (KISS concert was fantastic) which was just 2 days ago and had a most of night bathroom adventure, but I blamed that on a couple tastes of popcorn and perhaps a couple tater tots from Taco Time that my husband ate at before the concert.

Let me know if an when you need any help

Gabes, got your message about the antidepressant but I can only take either Paxil or Prozac as I react to all others. If I go completely off of it, I will not be able to stand myself and my daughter will probably smother me with a pillow. I really need this medication to keep me from being a pain in the ass.

I can understand that. The tough part is that while you are having those meds, the scope of improvement MC wise is very limited.

Gail,

Remember that one of the symptoms of magnesium deficiency is depression, and there is proof that magnesium treats depression:

Rapid recovery from major depression using magnesium treatment

And I can cite research articles showing that magnesium resolves virtually all other neurological issues also, including bipolar, schizophrenia, etc. — you name it . . . magnesium deficiency is virtually always involved.

Thanks, Tex. I'm a walking pharmacy so getting rid of one medication would be great. I'm not depressed. Never have been. I was put on it for anxiety following an automobile accident and left on it to help with symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Erica P-G wrote:Hi Gail,
I did the 23andMe for $200.....If you want, the next time I get a discount offered during some promotion for $150 I can send it to you? When you do this testing there is alot of information that can be obtained from it. If you do it, let us know a few on this forum have done it and can help you further your investigations.

You might be confusing the $500 with Enterolab and the stool testing, they do not do any DNA analysis.

Cheers

Hey...look at your fab new pic! Cute. :-)

Question about the 23andme testing. Do they give you your HLA genome? I visited the website but there wasn't much information on just what they provide in the reports. Do the reports include the diseases/conditions associated with each gene/group of genes you have?

Thanks, Erica!

Just did some Googling and it seems as if they increased their price in late 2015 from $99 to $199 and substantially reduced their health-related results reporting after the FDA jumped on them.

Erica...did you get your genome from 23andme recently and did you receive the raw data of your entire genome? I did see a company that interprets the raw data: https://www.enlis.com/personal_edition.html

Joanne, Thanks!!

Yes 23andMe gives you raw data, HLA, Chromosome explanation, traits, etc...and Promethease is who I went thru to extract data, and I noticed that information was expanded with extra files giving me a break down of medicine tolerance and good bad gene scenario so I feel 23andMe provides Promethease with more information with which to give better reporting. Ancestry only gave enough info to Promethease to activate the info on Promethease site and nothing else. At 23andMe if you participate in their surveys you gain more about yourself too.

I was pleased with what I've gotten and learned 😄

Cool. I see the Promethease report is only available for a certain number of days. Did you print out your Promethease report? How many pages are we talking?

And what kind of stuff is pertinent to those of us with MC? IOW, what should we be searching for that will be useful in addressing our MC?

Thanks so much for answering my endless questions!
