Good morning, Jen. I boil ground lamb to remove the fat and use a strainer to remove the water. Lamb has a high fat content. I add a little salt once it's cooked and it tastes fine cooked that way. My Costco doesn't carry ground lamb, I purchase it at the local grocery store. Costco has lamb roasts & chops. I initially reacted to gluten & dairy by having D. Now if I'm accidentally glutened I wake up with a headache and have joint pain. Eating out is a nightmare and I would avoid it until your gut is healed. I was able to eat a plain hamburger when dining out, but the last two times I felt sick almost immediately. I don't know if that was from cross contamination or something that is added to the hamburger, but I no longer will eat hamburger other than the grass fed organic hamburger that I purchase at the grocery store. Some people react to beef, but I can eat it without any issues. I know how overwhelming this is for you. I remember all too well wondering what I was going to eat. Hang in there, it will get better!

Brandy and Marcia, you have no idea how much i appreciate all your advise!! I feel like you are holding my hand through this. Baby steps is what i keep telling myself. Will send hubby to Costco today to get what you two have recommended. It is overwhelming, because i have lost so much weight, and i have to watch ingriedients so carefully. But like Tex said, im not going to gain right now. Will try lamb after lunch today on a full belly. Marcia, wonder if i can form a burger and place under the boiler? i would never even think of going to a restaurant during covid, feel much safer cooking my own, Besides the nausea is too bad to leave the house. So scary to try new things when you don't know how you will react. I will try to find Carol M,not sure how to do a search on this website? Thank you both again, you have been my strength. Jen
Tex, i guess i am your mini me as we presented with the exact same issues. I bought the Epsom salt and ordered ancient minerals mag lotion, as you suggested. Also,Started a vit d3 supplement. Three days ago i eliminated sugar so hopefully that will help the thrush situation. Its hard with the carbs, example: a potatoe/white jasmine rice/ banana, are my only sources of food right now. If i had thrush in the intestines, i would think that would have showed up on the endo /colonscopy last week? hopefully its just my tongue. But, i tend to agree with your WAEG Tex, i think its all related to this stubborn nausea. Thanks for all your insight, you are helping me more than you know. Jen
Hi, Jen. Broiling the lamb is totally fine. However you want to cook it will work. My cholesterol has been climbing (family history) so I boil it to eliminate some of the fat. You can't ask too many questions. I remember all to well how lonely and isolated I felt when I was first diagnosed and I am happy to help you however I can. I'm not an "expert" like many are, but I can share my experience with you.

Jen,
Don't let Marcia fool you with her "I'm not an expert" claim. She probably knows much more about successfully treating MC than most gastroenterologists. We're all students of the disease here, trying to learn better ways to deal with the issues caused by MC.
I never cut out potatoes, bananas, rice (or a few other carbs, for that matter — I just cut way, way down on sugar, sweet deserts, and baked items). Refined carbs (such as flour) are more serious problems than whole foods. Unfortunately, gastroenterologists rarely find candida. One usually has to go to a naturopath or some other alternative doctor to get a diagnosis for a yeast overgrowth.
To do a search of the archives, click on the link that says "Search The Archives of This Discussion Board" above the forums or posts on any page. Enter some appropriate keywords in the top narrow window and click the "search" button. If you're looking for a particular poster (such as carolm), enter their username in the second narrow window. If you don't know their complete username, you can do a wild-card search such as carol*, and the system will find posts for those keywords by all the carols. If you want the system to search only for posts that contain all the keywords you enter, select "search for all terms", otherwise it will list all posts that contain any of the words that you listed, because that option is selected by default.
If you have any problems with the search function and you need additional help, just ask.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Marcia, i boiled the lamb just with a little salt like you suggested.
It was actually good. Anything was better than another piece of chicken at this point.
If the nausea would disappear id have a better appetite.
Thanks for the recipe, easy, simple and good.
Feel free to share how you cook any of your other meats, too!!
I appreciate you

HI, Jen. Glad you liked the lamb! Turkey breast cutlets I brown in coconut oil. Turkey tenderloin (tends to be dry) I wrap with uncured bacon & bake in the oven (google for time & temp, I can't remember). The turkey breast from Costco is fully cooked & I don't do anything to it except heat it. Grass fed ground beef I eat as a burger (no bun) or just brown it and eat 3 oz. at a time. I can tolerate shrimp, which we grill in avacado oil (no seasoning). Bacon, oil, etc. might be too much for you at first. I eat chicken, but not often and I bake the breast in the oven or the air fryer. My meals are very bland as I don't want to upset the apple cart. If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

Oh my gosh, Marcia, thank you for the ideas. Funny how it lifts the spirit when you know there is more variety to eat. What section is the fully cooked turkey breast, in at Costco? I think you are right about the bacon, plus im too afraid at this point to try that. if the nausea would go away id be doing so much better as i have zero pain or diarrhea. Thanks for guiding me through this!

Jen, in PA the turkey breast is in the refrigerated section across from the fresh meat coolers. I hope they have it in your area. I eat it often.

No, unfortunately I only went to regular MDs. Back in those days, I had probably never even heard of naturopaths. At the time, I didn't even know that a yeast overgrowth was possible. But looking back, I had all the symptoms, and they lasted for a couple of years at least, including the thrush. When I made the last of my diet changes (during my initial flare) all the symptoms disappeared, and the thrush faded away. The main reason why it took so long was probably because I was so slow to eliminate all of the sugar (I loved deserts). I had to play my recovery by ear (so to speak), because I didn't know of anyone at the time who had even similar issues. My gastroenterologist finished all his testing, and then told me that there was nothing that he could do for me. (Back in those days, budesonide wasn't yet FDA-approved). I was on my own.jen wrote:Thank you Tex, Did you go to a naturopath or through your research you concluded it was candida overgrowth? And you are here for all of us, who helped you through your early stages? Thank you for all your support
I kept a journal of everything I put in my mouth, and recorded the corresponding time. I also kept track of exactly how I felt (or reacted) each day. About three or four months after I cut gluten out of my diet (permanently), I could begin to detect my other food sensitivities, so I slowly found all my food sensitivities. After I decided to cut them all out at the same time, I was in remission within about two weeks. It took a bit longer for the thrush, brain fog, and fatigue to fade away, but at least the diarrhea, migraines, and aches and pains were gone. I found Sally Read's MC discussion and support board about 6 months after I was in remission. I was amazed to find so many people who were just like me — there were dozens of people, and they wrote a lot of posts every day.

Does anyone know where i can buy chicken bones to make bone broth? My poor husband when to three markets and they all said no. And i know its so much better to make your own, but is there any product out there that i can buy that don't contain any ingrdients besides bones and water? Every label i see states rosemary extract, onion powder, garlic powder etc. Just getting desperate for some sort of broth or soup without additives.
Thanks so much
Jen
