I'm so sorry to hear this news. We lost one of our bloodhounds last January and it was heartbreaking. Our animals are our children and are a huge part of our family.
Any chance of taking him to another Vet to see if you get another treatment regiment? Vets are somewhat like people doctors, they approach symptoms in different manners.

Of course your puppy is your child. It is no less painful than when a human is sick, in my book. Sometimes even more painful. I will keep my fingers crossed and send good thoughts.
Yes, Tex is correct about my dog. He developed an autoimmune problem (hypoparathyroidism) 4 years ago and almost died. I did a lot of research at that time and came to the conclusion that his food may have been the cause. Most commercial dog foods contain grains, and yet, the wolf (who is the ancestor of all of the dogs alive today) has no grain in its diet in the wild. So I started Rusty on an all-meat diet - there are ones available commercially. If you want to learn more about it - google "BARF" diet - stands for "bones and raw food".
Rusty has never been healthier - he is now eleven, skinny, has a beautiful coat and boundless energy (walks/runs 4 or more miles a day and swims for an additional half-hour in the warm weather). Somedays he goes 4 miles on the trail with my hubby and later the same day an additional 3 miles with me. He has no vision/hearing problems, back leg weakness, arthritis, or other ailments of elderly dogs. I swear by this diet.
Regarding Tex' interesting comments about increasing problems that pets are having, I think I posted earlier that there is a poodle we see on the trail who is diagnosed with MC. She takes Entocort. I told the family about raw food, but they haven't tried it because the vet hasn't recommended it. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? When will the medical community wake up to the importance of diet/nutrition?
