Tex,

Glad you made it fairly unscathed with limited damage to your crops.

No wonder it surprised you with no warning- usually the local stations are pretty good about that.

It's mother nature at it's best.....here in MN, we most likely will wake up to a good 15" of fresh white wet snow in the morning - I uncovered my perennials 2 weeks ago SIGH and hoped to do some yard work this weekend. The snow started 7 hours ago and we have at least a four foot snow drift on our deck--for peat sakes, it was 60 degrees 3 days ago!

Matthew,

Now that's a hailstorm. And yep, that's what worries me about big hail.

I once got caught in a storm with big hail while camping in a popup camper, near a lake. The thunder and lightening woke me up about four am, and it wasn't long before the hail started. I thought that the vinyl/canvas material that the top of the "wings" were made of was tough and resilient enough to handle it, but it wasn't, so my bed got wet, but luckily none of the big ones came all the way through. The fiberglass roof on the center section survived, but all the canvas and vinyl had to be replaced.

It broke the top of my brand new plastic ice chest, too. My vehicle was parked downwind of the camper, and was dented up, but surprisingly, none of the windows were broken - I guess it got a little protection from the camper. To add insult to injury, about an hour later, another squall line came through, and did it again. That camping trip wasn't much fun. I don't really remember, but I'll bet the fish weren't biting, either. LOL.

Joanna,

It sounds like you brought Alaska along with you. LOL.

Love,
Tex

Matthew - unbelievable! I never knew hail could be that large and that destructive.

WOW!! Had company yesterday and didn't get on to read this thread.

What an experience!! I can't imagine even the size you had yesterday, Tex, much less the size Matthew described.

I'm really glad the crops weren't totally destroyed.

Nature can be so awesome and so terrifying all at the same time.

Seattle gets a bad rap for the rain and grey. I'll take it any day! Tex, want me to check out the real estate ads? Maybe you could take up an apple orchard business. I read today about protecting apples and pears from apple maggots by putting a panty hose footsie on the fruit. Hmmm, apple maggots or golf-sized hail. I guess it's a toss up.
Glad you're safe.

Becky,

Thanks, but I guess I'll try to tough it out down here. That news could cause a run on the pantyhose market, and by the time I got settled down up there, I wouldn't be able to afford more than one or two pair, and the maggots would get all my apples for sure. LOL.

Great descriptions! I think Matthew and Tex are giving Barbara some competition for this year's creative writing award.

Hahahaha. Thanks, Polly, but I don't think that she has much to worry about. I can't speak for Matthew, of course, but I realize that I'm certainly not in Barbara's class - she wrote the book on creative writing. Well, she should write it, anyway.

Polly and Wayne

Thanks for the Kudos.

I am with Wayne I'm certainly not in Barbara's class.

Just thankful for so many creative people that show up here on almost any subject.

Love

Matthew
