Well let's see I started the probiotic yogurt Tuesday afternoon and I have not had a rumbling gut anymore to speak of, maybe just a touch but no Mount Vesuvius type stuff. And things aren't nearly as sore gut wise today either. I've been off of gluten since Sunday, but going by past experience, it's not the reason, I am positive it is the yogurt.

But last night I ate some Blue Diamond Almond Nut/Rice crackers so my guts did feel a bit owly this morning, I am sure it was because of that, if things are riled up nuts are a big no no for me. Opps!

But still no return of the Big D, just Norman in the morning, he looks a big ragged, but considering what this last month has been like..it's pretty pretty good.

Thanks for listening.

Cheers! and for all of us wage slaves..Happy Friday.

Ok this is my 16th day on the stuff, eating 2 -4oz cartons a day. One in the morning with a sliced banana and then with my lunch or one after dinner. I read somewhere that the Dannon Activa has 10 billion live bacteria in 4 ozs, and that is what "they" say is enough for one day, but I have been eating 2 and some days 3.

Anyway, the gist of my post is, I haven't felt this good in ages. No D no matter what I eat so far, no gut rumblings, no more bloating or pain either. You know the feeling like somebody has been rubbing the insides of your intestines with sand paper. That has finally gone away the last few days as well.

Good for you. You seem to be getting far better results with a probiotic than anyone else to date, as far as I'm aware. Maybe that med that you tried, (without success), before the onset of your flare, somehow messed up your gut bacteria.

10 billion sounds like a lot of bacteria, but it really isn't, (as far as bacteria populations are concerned). VSL#3, for example, contains 450 billion live bacteria per packet. (Of course, it has a reputation as a high-potency probiotic, and it has been shown by research, to be very effective at reducing inflammation.) High numbers help to make up for the ones that arrive DOA, and/or get killed or crippled by stomach acid, before they ever get to where they need to go. I suspect that a lot of people underdose on probiotics, because the manufacturers tend to brag on what huge populations of bacteria their products contain, when in reality, the numbers aren't really particularly high.

IOW, I think that more than one dose per day, with products that have relatively low bacterial counts, is probably a good idea.

Sounds good to me, I can easily eat 3 a day, I love yogurt anyway.

If this keeps working for me I'll consider myself truly blessed!

Yeah I was put on a statin drug for my cholesterol, which is not dangerously high by any means. I tried to take it three times, I kept getting quite nauseated, so I stopped it, then I thought well maybe it was something else, like the flu, so I tried it again for a week or so and again, sick to my stomach and I had some rumblings and gas...Well I am a glutton for punishment and tried it a third time, and then before I knew it I was having pain, and constant D. So three strikes and you are out. I still haven't told my regular Quack Doc I am not taking it, and I really don't care what she says anyway.

You really gave it the old college try, alright, but as you say, the third strike might have tipped the balance. It's a pity that our bodies don't come with gauges, that tell us when we're nearing the danger zone, and we need to back off on something.

Yeah well I wanted to be sure, I also had a few other weird things happen, night sweats and feeling rather hyper in the middle of the night, not my regular sleeping pattern at all anymore. It was like going through menopause again and those sysmtoms have long since gone, it has been years since anything like that has happened to me.

I should have had enough sense to stop after two tries.

Live and learn. :???:

Another update. It has been 24 days now. And I no longer feel guilty about feeling good again. (Ok, considering what so many of you have going on, it does make me feel a bit guilty.)

I just hope somebody, anybody, can try this and it works for them too.

Aw Deb, don't feel guilty for feeling good. It's wonderful for anybody to feel good. Also, I think it gives others hope.

You are right Shirley, and there just might be some other poor souls out here that this will work for too! I can only hope so.
