Terri,

I'm guessing that she means Lialda. It's a relatively new brand of mesalamine. If I recall correctly, it's more concentrated than the older brands,so that the patient doesn't have to take as many pills each day. Yes, it's lactose-free.
The inactive ingredients of LIALDA are sodium carboxymethylcellulose, carnauba wax, stearic acid, silica (colloidal hydrated), sodium starch glycolate (type A), talc, magnesium stearate, methacrylic acid copolymer types A and B, triethylcitrate, titanium dioxide, red ferric oxide and polyethylene glycol 6000.

Oops...sorry it is Lialda. Difficult keeping these meds straight!! I only take 1 big old horse sized pill a day and my understanding is that it is extended release.

That's great Cathy! I'm just wondering why you are having another colonoscopy? We can't get rid of MC. What are they looking for? I'm just worried that the clean out procedure could derail your progress.( it has for some).

Good question Leah. She was unable to complete the 1st one and was only able to get to the 1st turn in my intestine. After 1.5 hours of trying different tricks, while I was minimally sedated, she gave up. I remember it all!! Not a pleasant experience. She did take biopsies which confirmed the LC but I was continuing to flare up with WD 7-10 daily, even on the budesonide. Given my recent success on the new meds. I had debated postponing it but figured I would like to make sure there isn't something else going on there. If she is unable to complete it this time, she will get a CT scan of my abodomen and they are going to knock me out this time, thank God. The prep is the easy part for me!! Last time, it really didn't work as my colon was getting cleaned out daily so I'm not too concerned about the prep!! I am planning on a liquid diet starting Saturday so shouldn't have too much of a problem. My appt. isn't until 4pm on Monday which completely stinks but I'm used to going without food for long periods of time.

Leah wrote:Hi Anne. If you suspect you are reacting to dairy, you probably are. You really should think about taking it out of your diet while you are trying to heal on Entocort. You can always test it down the road when you are either on a very low dose or off it completely..... otherwise, you may be putting off healing and could relapse when you try to get off the steroid. Just a suggestion.

This is really interesting! And bewildering! But aside from a couple of loose movements a couple of days in Spain I have been really much improved since coming off the Asacol! I only got back two days ago and today I am back to a single Norman! I will look into the dairy side of things and when I get my head around Tex's comments re that NSAIDs thing I will take that back to the consultant. But I really have improved significantly since Asacol was removed! Compared to a few months ago I am so much better and my energy is good - and all that despite a headcold!!! LOL!

I have been digilent with diet of course and feel like the Entorcort is finally all out of my system so it's definitely the new meds. I'm feeling stronger too in my workouts and just better overall. I have my colonoscopy scheduled for Monday and will update with results from that.
Hi Cathy,
Brilliant news (sorry just catching up having been on holiday!) and I am really pleased to see that your energy level is good too! It is amazing the difference Norman's make to feeling well! I do hope things continue to improve for you!

Hi Anne,
Thanks for checking on me! I'm doing well. Lost 5 lbs. due to the liquid diet for 3 days but have been eating like crazy over the past week. My appetite has increased hugely..not sure if this is a side effect of the new meds or not but I need to STOP eating so much, lOL. My colonoscopy was a piece of cake. They gave me propofol so I felt terrific and was having a good dream when they went to wake me up. She took multiple biopsies, said my whole entire colon is inflamed and tentatively diagnosed me with Ulcerative colitis. I am continuing to have just 1-2 pretty formed normans a day. A huge improvement. Hope you enjoyed your Holiday? We are hoping to go somewhere over Christmas. Last year we went to Cancun...who knows maybe Hawaii this year??

Glad to hear you are doing better! A great improvement on the bowels. I love my huge appetite right now....gaining back the 5 lbs I also lost during my colonscopy week.

Love that propolol (I see why Michael Jackson liked it so much) as it took me to Jamaica...lol! We went to Hawaii on our honeymoon 20 years ago (Maui). A must see! It's paradise there.

Take care,
Terri

Positive Update....

Post by CathyMe. »

I decided to stop taking Liadal for the past 5 days and continue to experience normans!! as of right now, I am off all meds, YIPPEE!!! I have also been researching the Paleo diet and posted about that in the other forum. Since adding in more meat to my diet, I have had a major increase in BM (like 7 yesterday)but they are all formed. Anyone else experience this after switching to Paleo? I'm feeling good. I also stopped taking ambien 3 weeks ago. I was definitely addicted, have had a rough transition and I'm still not sleeping the whole night but I'm dreaming now, which had stopped on the ambien. I'm also not getting up at night and binge eating, (and forgetting about it) which is the reason I decided to stop taking the ambien. I was concerned that I would get in my car and drive somewhere!!

Yay! Hopefully you won't need meds ever....wouldn't that be nice? I haven't given up my rice so not Paleo yet but like to get there one day. I had heard that about ambien and the night walks. That's scary. Imagine if you had been sleep walking and binging on something with gluten! Yikes!

Glad you are feeling good!

I started Liadal today. Just curious, for everyone that has been/is on it, how many pills a day did you take? My GI told me 1 everyday and 1 entocort every other day for a couple of weeks to wean me off the entocort.

Hi Jessica,
I was taking 1 large red pill of Liadal every day. My GI had me stop the budesonide completely @ the same time that I went on the Liadal so no tapering off for me. I got a huge headache the 1st few days also.

Thanks Terri! I hope that I have finally reached remission. Yes, the bingeing was absolutely crazy. The only way that I knew that I had eaten anything was the bowl and spoon that I had left out. I tended to eat several apples or bananas with peanut butter or almond butter so nothing too bad but I really didn't like not remembering!
