GI Dr. visit and an update

Post by suzieq »

Hi all,

I saw the GI Dr. last week for a follow-up visit. I was just finishing up the 30 day supply of 3mg of Entocort that he prescribed. OMG - he started telling me that I should start to taper off the 9 mg a day down to 6 mg a day, I sat there in total shock!!! He didn't have my chart in front of him and he obviously didn't read the notes on the computer before coming into the examination room. I couldn't believe it. I told him that he only prescribed 3 mg a day and that was how the prescription was written (now I'm tapering off of that, a slow long taper). Then he said he remembered he did that for a reason but couldn't remember what it was, he didn't have my chart. I asked if it was because I have osteoporosis, and then, yeah, it was all coming back to him!!! OMG!!! Look at my info before walking in the room!!! I really don't know if I will call him again if I have another flare. I liked him at first, he seemed very knowledgeable, supported my Enterolab results and I just don't know anymore!! Also, I told him that the Pepto Bismol left very loud ringing in my ears and it's not going away, his answer was "really", no advice. Oh, and then he wants me to take a probiotic, VSL#3. I said I would try it. Then I looked it up when I got home and decided that I wasn't going to try it. First it's very expensive and it also has diary, again he didn't look at my chart!!!

I have been having Norman's for a while now, so the diet and Entocort worked.

Gabes - I wanted to get myself to a good place before introducing the P5P and magnesium. I found a supplement that has both in one capsule. The P5P is 30 mg and the magnesium is 100 mg. I took it in the evening right after dinner. The 1st 2 nights I thought I was going to die, I had so much gas. Last night wasn't so bad. I had sort of normal Norman's the past 3 mornings, I was worried about diarrhea with the magnesium.

Thanks again for all the help and advice and for listening, it is much appreciated.

Susanne
sorry that you had a stressful and unhelpful GI visit...

it is great news that the diet along with the entocort worked

glad that your poop has improved a bit with the P5P and magnesium. 100mg is a very low dose in the scheme of things.
our bodies need at least 350mg per day, to fix deficiency we need more.

the best way to avoid diarrhea issues and get good magnesium is to use topical along with oral.
if you want to increase oral intake, take one capsule in the morning and one in the evening.

with your osteoporosis, you need good amounts of magnesium so the body can use the Vit D3 to make the calcium your body needs. another good reason to consider using topical magnesium and getting your daily intake up to at least 400mg per day.

hope the improvements keep happening

I use topical during my flare last year and then slowly added oral to get to 600mg. I strongly believe that catching up on Mag and Vit D stopped the flare along of course with bland basic stage 1 eating plan. I used life flo for 8 sprays equals about 100 mg. several times a day at first. Tried remag but had that teeth problem so had to stop it. I didn't use steroids because I have osteoporosis.
