Poor Christine
That cold has a hold on you, doesn't it?! Just to top it off - and your period too
Christine, I see you've stopped eating the canned peaches - good! I regret not being able to have frozen peached due to the preservative in it (corn derivative). This time of the year there are fresh peaches in abbundance in SC - right off the trees; can you get some fresh ones where you are?
I was wondering about your applesauce - what is in it? I don't eat applesauce very frequently but I remember finding two safe brands at the HF store; one was "Tree of Life" and I don't remember the other brand right now. It's the same issue again - the corn syrup or corn derivative in most applesauces. Of course, you could make your own.
I see you still eat a fair amount of processed foods - it is difficult to cut back on them or completely do away with them; but little by little you will become a master of your diet and know which processed foods you can tolerate (not many, I am afraid ). The party was a real bummer food-wise; those type of non-safe meals set you back a few days and then you can start over with a more clean diet and start feeling a little better again. I have made an agreement with myself not to do those set-backs; I'd rather miss the party But you don't have to miss the party; just carry your own stash in zip lock bags in your pocket book. Eat a good filling meal right before you go to the party.
I hope you will start to feel better very soon.
Love,
Karen

Christine,
Just wanted to let you know I'm enjoying journal reading in this room. I read on the GMB that you might have found some relief by ommitting corn derivates and POP. I hope that continues for you.
Also, get that sinus problem under control asap.
Love,
Joanna

Hey girls :)
I'm doing a little better with my sinuses this morning - tho the pager went off 3 times last night so I didn't get a whole lot of sleep.. I guess I should expect more of it - cuz I'm on call for 2 more weeks!!!! Anyway, started the Z-pak last night and slightly less congested this morning. My ears are still pretty plugged but at least I'm not getting sharp pains anymore.
I cut out the peaches, yes, tho I did buy more last night. I looked on the can and they're only packed in their own juice and pear juice. Applesauce, I'm not so sure of.. I wasn't aware there was corn syrup in it. I will check this. I buy Mott's.
We don't have a whole lot for fresh produce like peaches up here. It's there, but it's often not so fresh.. it's hard to tell when a peach will be not ripe or too ripe and pasty until you bite into it. You can't tell by feeling or color. So it's often a disappointment. Which is why canned is so much better.. I can always rely on it.
Anyway, I'm worried that once I get rid of my sinus stuff, my immune system won't have anything to fight and will go back to fighting my stomach LOL.

breakfast (6am): applesauce
snacks: rice cereal, EnerG "granola bar" (only questionable ingredient is corn starch, small amount)
lunch (2pm): salad with turkey and bacon, tomatos and olives, french dressing - I had some lemonade with this, and there must have been corn syrup in it because I started hurting (stomach) about 5 minutes after consuming any of it.
dinner: had a snack dinner as I wasn't feeling that good - banana and some rice cereal
BM (9:30pm): large amount of diarrhea - definitely a reaction to something.
OVERALL SYMPTOMS TODAY:
started Z-pak last night. Sinuses are somewhat less congested, chest cough today, back pain is pretty bad.
stomach pain is ok!

Hi Christine,
Glad you are beginning to feel better in relation to the sinus problems.
Don't spend too much time worrying about what is going to happen when you start to feel better - your immune system doesn't attack your body unless there is a reason; it's really designed to protect you; not attack you LOL!! By removing the offending proteins (from gluten, dairy, corn etc) from your diet you are removing the reason for the immune system to attack your tissues. Hang in there, Christine - wellness is around the corner.
Since you mentioned Motts Applesauce I now remember that I was very disappointed to find that Motts was not safe for me (I think it was because of the corn preservative). On the other hand, Motts has made an Organic Applesauce that comes in a glass jar and it happens not to have any corn derivatives - it is a good product well worth the money if you react to corn. Look for Motts Organic Applesauce next time you shop for applesauce - better check the label before you buy it; they could have changed the ingredients since I bought it half a year ago.
Love,
Karen

breakfast (5am): applesauce
snacks: rice cereal
lunch (2pm): plain hamburger, small amount of salad with only lettuce and french dressing. Back pain has grown almost intolerable now.
dinner (7:30pm): tacos - rice and buckwheat flour tortillas with taco meat, lettuce, tomatos and onions and an MI-free dressing.
OVERALL SYMPTOMS TODAY:
had a reaction to something yesterday, and I'm still feeling slightly "strange" from that stomach-wise.
back pain is not horrible but not great
cold is still there, congestion is more in my chest now, altho I'm still having a lot of drainage up north too. My ears are still the same - popping almost all the time, with every swallow - I can hear 2 different tones when people speak or on the TV and they sound "out of tune" together.

Good Morning, Christine -
It finally dawned on me some time during the day yesterday what it is in applesauce that is a corn derivative. It is not the sweetener as I always buy the unsweetened applesauce. However, it is the citric acid or asorbic acid at the very end of the ingredient list. Both of those are often corn derivatives - they don't have to be but most often they are.
Corn is a difficult trigger to avoid - most processed foods have some of it in there and miniscule amounts can make us very sick. I applaud you for trying to rid your diet of corn - if you react to it you will feel much better when you finally eliminate all sources of it. There are a few of us that have experience with avoiding corn so just ask questions, OK??!!
Talk to you later.
Love,
Karen

Lol Thanks, Karen :)
I'll check on my applesauce when I get home (I'll TRY to remember but I have a horrible memory these days.. ). I have a horrible backache today and had a reaction last night to something or other. It seems now my reactions are more brief, consisting of a brief stomach ache followed by a rid-all diarrhea episode, followed by a day or two of back pain.. this is good tho.. consistency is good. I had a couple of questionable items yesterday, so it was probably one of them. I need to avoid going out at ALL because restaurants can't seem to fully accomodate me, and I need to find an alternative dressing. I have a raspberry viniagrette from Annie's but I just don't care for it. I'll have to figure out something else.
Meantime, I think I'll start avoiding salads at all cost. LOL

Kathy,
Hey :) I think most of today is because A) we had a work party yesterday and of COURSE they didn't have anything *I* could drink, alcohol or otherwise, so I had some wine that had a bit of corn syrup in it, which started affecting me right away. B) I was up half the night with the work pager going off.. stupid development.. they can't seem to figure out how to support the product!!!! grr.
Anyway, hopefully this weekend will bring lots of rest :) and recovery???
