Well that's good to know, Zizzle. If I don't feel well when taking 8/day I'll know to decrease it. Do you have to continue to take it every day? I think I remember you saying that you eat in restaurants frequently, so I wonder if that has something to do with it. (Good for you btw, I hope to someday see the inside of a restaurant again. )

Call it self-sabotage, but we do tend to visit restaurants on weekends, one in particular that even has a GF menu, but I manage to get vicious D the next day and for 2-3 days afterwards. I always order sauteed calamari and cooked veggies, sometimes grilled wings, and usually a martini, but the restaurant does a ton of fried food and is ripe for cross-contamination. It's my family's "watering hole" so it's the price I pay for reconnecting with friends and brothers-in-law. Pepto seems to shorten the duration of the flare up. I do not take Pepto every day, only when the D acts up, although my norm is always a soft pile, rarely norman. But as long as there's no major urgency, frequency, bloating or discomfort, I skip the Pepto most days.
Hi Arlene,
All these medicines have side effects. The question is what do we do to take our lives back. So far I have been unable to control my LC with diet. I have been very careful and strict, but have still not been able to achieve remission without medications. I am willing to accept the risks to feel good until diet has a chance to heal me. Since I need medication at this point, I want to pick one that is the best under the circumstances.
Like Joe says, the key is to be well informed. The other thing to remember is that the choice you make today is not irrevocable. I am starting Imuran, but, even if it works, I will hope to stop someday. If it does not work, I will use Entocort. I would rather have a good quality of life. Being chained to the bathroom makes that hard.
Good luck and I hope your job interview goes well!

What's wrong with these doctors? Entocort is far safer than Imuran. I was on Entocort for 6 years straight, followed by no pills for 4 years, with little side effects. Like you, I have fatigue, but who knows if that is from Entocort or MC.
I was on Imuran for 6 months and it triggered Parotinitis ( like mumps) in me and caused me to have Sjogren's syndrome (dry eye, mouth etc.) It's big side effect is Cancer.
So choose carefully. I am surprised your doc is pushing it.
Good luck,
karen

Celie,
Today's interview went well. I was one of 3 called back and I will know by Friday if I got the job. I'm really hoping that this is the job I get.
As far as how I'm feeling, well not very good. I'm not sure how long this Pepto thing takes to work, but today has not been a very good day. D has increased today. I've made the decision that if I get this job, I'll have to try the Lialda. I already paid for it, and have had it for 4 weeks--just haven't taken it. I won't be able to work like this so I'll have to do something else unless the Pepto thing kicks in before Friday, but I have my doubts based on how I'm feeling today.
Thanks for asking!

MC is very frustrating. I know how you feel. I dislike (no despise) the idea of taking these meds, but I must work and I want to enjoy life. So, I will try the meds and see what works best. Right now, I have great clinical remission. But, with both diet and meds. Right now, I feel better than I have in several years. I hope that will continue.
