Relief For High Drug Prices May Be On The Way
It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
They get their drugs from the same companies that we get them from, but everyone else in the world pays substantially lower prices than we do for the same drugs. I reckon we must all have the word "Sucker" printed across our foreheads.
I believe what happens, is that most of the world's population either can't afford inflated drug prices, or their governments have health programs in place that put a very tight cap on drug prices. As a result, the pharmaceutical companies expect us to make up the differences for any shortfalls, plus a huge profit, to boot, since we appear to them to be defenseless.
IOW, in the world game of pharmaceutical musical chairs, we weren't fast enough, so we're "it". I'm not sure how this all came about, but I suspect that it just slowly evolved, over the decades, and it fit right in with the outrageous prices that we pay for health care in general, so that sort of gave it an aura of legitimacy. Plus, I have no doubt that the pharmaceutical companies hire some of the best lobbyists in the world, (second only to the lobbyists working for the soy industry. ), so that what "Big Pharma" wants, Big Pharma gets, (for the most part).
Maybe our legislature is beginning to feel some sort of remorse for hanging us out to dry, for all these years, and they're using this as a back door approach to provide us with a little relief, without totally teeing off their Big Pharma friends. As usual, though, their convoluted methods of solving domestic problems, almost always seem to result in the wholesale exporting of U.S. dollars. I suppose it's better for this country to be owned by Canada, though, than by China.
Love,
