Is Entocort $$$ the only way?

Post by Sylvia »

Hi all, still casting about for answers. Have read your posts praising Entocort and looked it up under my insurance formulary. Eeegaddd! Looks like a 90 day supply of 3 mg once a day would cost me appx $600! Wish I had different insurance, but elected this one as of 1st of year, so can't change. Medicare rules!! Hope the gastro I see tomorrow has other ideas, he hasn't been helpful so far. Any other success stories without Entocort? Sylvia

Sylvia, it's a real shame that the Entocort is so expensive and Medicare Drug Plans aren't very good about covering the cost. The drug works so well for many people.......

There has been discussion about the cost in the past, and here is a link to a discussion about purchasing from other countries. It's amazingly cheaper!

Hi Sylvia,

I have posted my protocol on treating this w/o Entocort here: http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewt ... ght=#68885

I originally was using Pepto but it made me feel completely wired, so I dropped that. This protocol worked almost immediately and I came up with it by working with my ND. I researched and got a lot of good info here and elsewhere, then he researched and came up with the Proboulardi. Within what seemed like days my D had stopped and has NEVER returned, although I've had some gassy days and loose BM's when I've been glutened accidentally. I agree with what others have said on the other thread about the fiber, probably not a good idea. You can live on ripe bananas for quite awhile.

I don't believe that anything I am taking is prescription. I pick the LGlutamine and Proboulardi up at my ND's office, so you could probably find them at a specialty supplement store by calling around.

I know that many people have had good results with Entocort, but it still seems way too dangerous to me and your GI MD doesn't sound like he has a clue what he's dealing with here, IMO.

The Glutamine is in powder form, you just mix it with water or juice and it is almost tasteless. I also recommend the Enterolab testing.

Hi Sylvia, my copay jumped to $250 and so I just ordered a generic from Canada on line which cost me $56. My pcp approved of this. I'm expecting in the mail this week. JoAnn

Trying Asacol

Post by Sylvia »

Saw the gastro who did my scope and he prescribed Asacol 400, 2 pills, three times a day. My daughter has Crohn's and has a good sized supply so she gave me some to try before I buy. Am going to look about to see where I can find it cheaper than the local pharmacy. Which out-of-states pharmacy do you have experience with, anyone? Thanks, Sylvia
