Hello everyone!

Post by Arlene »

Well, it's been a long time. Hope I caught everyone doing well. I've been extremely busy. Plus, my 22 month-old figured out how to use the computer and has become a computer hog. This is the only one linked up to the internet. I tried putting her little game on her brother's computer, but it was a no go. She insists on this one. So, here it is, 11 pm before I finally get to get on.

Norman has been coming and going. I was doing really well for a while there and then BOOM, it all went down the tubes. The sad part is that I'm still on my diet and haven't been off.

We have a new neighbor. They are a wonderful couple. Both of them Dr's. (DO) I was wanting to go to med school until we got to talking about the debt that they have incurred from tuitions. OUCH! By the time I finish with everything, I'll be 45 years old with a quarter of a million dollars of debt. Just don't see that happening. My kids will be starting college by then. That's all I need is three college tuitions to pay for. I think I might go with nursing. I'm still not totally sure anymore what I want to do since making the decision not to become a radiologist. Sigh...

:toilet3: This emoticon is so funny. This happened to me the other day. I was the one standing on the outside desperately needing in.

So...how about you guys? What have you been up to?

Much love
Arlene

Hi Arlene

It's very good to see you again - you HAVE been gone for a long time and missed.

Your daughter sounds like she is showing you who is the boss LOL!! The computer can be a great learning tool and also provides lots of entertainment so mother can get to do something else including perhaps just being herself for a few minutes w/o having a clinging toddler wrapped around her.....

I am sorry to hear about your diarrhea coming and going. It's great when it is gone, isn't it!! And I am happy for you that you have times when it is gone. Those are the times you want to build on and expand until finally they take over the entire 24 hours every day. Arlene, the diet is usually a little hard to learn and it takes most of us a long time to get it completely down pat. You should not necessarily thing that the diet is failing - perhaps there are some foods in your repertoire that have some sources of a trigger (you are just gluten free, right?). Sometimes after we go into remission we begin to introduce foods into our diets because we want more variety and we become more comfortable about knowing our diet - however, sometimes one or more of those foods turn out to contain a trigger that we overlooked for one or another reason. Perhaps it is time to read labels once again - every time you engage in eating something take a brief look at the label to make sure it contains what you thought it should. There are also times when a manufacturer adds an ingredient to a product so it is no longer safe.

I am looking forward to reading more of your posts.

Love,
Karen

Hi Arlene,

It's great to hear from you again. I'm glad your daughter decided to let you use the computer. Learning to use it this young, she should be a real expert in a few years.

Sorry to hear about the GI problems. I think the hot weather has something to do with it. I'm having a few problems myself, now and then, that I don't know what else to blame them on.

It's pretty quiet around here tonight. It looks as though almost everyone went to bed early. I think I'm about ready to do the same. :countsheep:

Love,
Tex
:cowboy:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Karen and Wayne!

Post by Arlene »

I'm so glad to hear from you both.

I'm still doing the label reading and I've eliminated dairy, soy, corn, gluten and yeast. I've even cut back on garlic because I've noticed an unusual feeling after eating it.

I've started working out again too. It seems that working out makes my stomach rumble a little more than usual. Does it do that to you? I know it sounds goofy, but I did hire that trainer on. I was nice. He was a good encouragement to me. Now I'm on my own again and need to try and keep myself motivated. I noticed that I have been feeling a little bit better overall. Not that it was a big surprise. I knew I needed to get some exercise to get some meat on these ol' bones. I have gained 3 lbs in the last 5 or 6 weeks. Ten more to go and I'll be happy.

As far as the heat. WHEW! It is so hot outside!!! I think it's supposed to hit 101 degrees this weekend. I'm so grateful for air conditioning! That heat must really get to you Wayne. I don't know how you do it. You're probably out in it a lot, huh?

Thanks for the encouragement, both of you. :-)

Much love
Arlene

Oh, Wayne -

I am still up - it's late here. I had just finished a little post for you but it disappeared when I hit the submit button. 12:38 am now on my computer clock. I am still up because I happened upon the Ellen show and couldn't stop watching it; she is so endearing and funny. She interviewed Snoop Dog; incredibly funny. The cable TV is a real time robber.

I would love to stay up all night and chat, read, write, surf and take it easy but if I do tomorrow will be a difficult task so I am not going to follow my heart's desire. Better get some sleep.

Good Night - Sleep Tight!

Love,
Karen

Hi Arlene and welcome back home!

Sorry to hear you are having a bad time right now but I agree with the label reading and manufacturers just adding something new. Also, the heat has really affected me - especially my joints - and my system has just been off since this heat wave struck. You will soon be up there with Polly and I on the intolerances. Funny you should mention garlic and everyone says it is so great for everyone.

Hope to see you visiting more and your little one sounds like a computer wizard in the making.

Maggie

Good Morning, Arlene

You are doing a great job with your exercising - it's always difficult to get started after having been away from it but it is almost harder to keep motivated to stick with it once you get started. Working with a trainer is a great way to stick with a program and perhaps go an extra mile. I am proud of you for doing all of it!!
So you are gaining muscle
How often do you exercise and what do you do?

I am going to the gym 5 times a week now - also working with a trainer; twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The other days I do it by myself. With the trainer it is mostly strength training - we've been sculpting legs recently; I am sooooo sore but it is a good feeling because it is a sign that what we do is having an impact. My upper body is much easier to work by myself so I do that and then I run either on the treadmill or outside in my neighborhood; it's almost too hot to get out this time of the year.

Talk to you soon.

Love,
Karen

Arlene!

It's good to see you again! Sounds like you are making good progress overall with your diet! The fine tuning does take time. Have you seen the super articles on multiple intolerances that Jean wrote for us? They're in the Forum titled "Information on Diet". They might be helpful to you as you tweak your diet.

Glad to hear that you are staying fit. I need to push a little harder. I've only been running 2 miles at a time instead of 3 - I think mainly because of the heat. I've been running indoors on the treadmill, but it is so boring compared to outside. :treadmill: I have slacked off on weights a little too. And I still haven't added Pilates to my routine like I want to. (OK Joyce, I can hear you laughing - LOL!). Maybe you and Karen can give me a little push?

Don't be a stranger. And tell us more about your little prodigy, please!

Love,

Polly

Hi Arlene

Times like those emoticons are a good advertisement for two bathrooms. We have an ensuite and my husband suggested we widen the main bathroom so we could put a jacuzzi in, but I vetoed that - I love my second bathroom, so will just have to do with the smaller bathtub in the main bathroom.

So you would like to go into the people care profession? I know it takes a long time to become a Dr., as I'm sure Polly can attest to, but nursing is also a rewarding profession and doesn't take as long, like you said.
Good luck with whatever you decide. I have a friend who has two children and just has 6 months until she graduates with her nursing degree. It's been a tough go for them financially, but it's nearly finished and she's so happy. I give credit to anyone who goes into the medical profession. We can never have enough caregivers.

That's cute that your 22 month old has taken such an interest in the computer. My grandchildren are 15 and 12 and both already know much more than I about computers. It seems to come naturally to children.
I didn't start playing around on the computer until I was in my 40's, but know a fair bit now and really enjoy it.

Well, have a nice day and hope your tummy behaves. I know you will learn more about what helps as you go along and there sure is a lot of help here.

Take care - Love - Momster

I have wandered off my diet... :mallet: no one to blame but me. But I will figure it out. Sounds like you have some great neighbors.....it can cost to go to school tobe a DR. I know you will do what is right for you. You look too young to have three kids. Love Oma

Boy, I know that feeling except for me it was having a regular land line phone in hand speaking long distance with no cell or remote available and it was, ummm, one of those moments you know? Gotta go NOWooooooo. My poor little sister put on hold and I had to go~

Hope you are having a fun-filled summer anyways. Enjoy your little ones cuz they just bloom and grow ever so fast.
