Should I be concerned about gluten in mouthwash/ toothpaste and lipstick. Does Sodium Saccharine contain gluten? it's in my mouthwash. Any favorite g-f hygiene and cosmetic brands?
Thanks,
Scout

Sodium saccharine is simply the sodium salt of saccharine, and it's the form of saccharine commonly used to sweeten certain products, such as mouthwash, toothpaste, etc. It doesn't contain any gluten, but it may be a good idea to not swallow any, since many of us seem to get D from most artificial sweeteners.

Yes, many lipsticks do contain gluten and soy. If you go over to celiac.com and do a search they have discussed this many times. I use Personal Basics/Andrea Rose products and they are GF and fragrance free.

Morning Gabes,
Isn't it amazing where we find the hidden gluten. Was always a lipstick person but since getting this disease almost 10 years ago have stopped using it entirely. Since I am also intolerant of soy, it kind of eliminates a number of products.
Hope this discovery helps solve your setbacks.
Love, Maggie

Wow, was just going to search for lipstick and see what came up since I have been wondering the same thing. Burt Bee's was recommended but it has soy. Thanks for the info Mary Beth. Gabes, I eat my lipstick to, but honestly I would look like an old prune if I didn't have some color, BUT we are talking about our health aren't we and I have by no means gotten near to remission so I wil be actively looking for SF/GF products. i am using a natural lip gloss for the moment until i do further research.
and the hunt for hidden gluten and soy continues....

I decided I didn't trust the lip balms I had - too many ingredients that could hide gluten and nasty chemicals. Too many reactions that could maybe be blamed on these. Why do the natural ones have to think it is good to enrich things with wheatgerm?
So if my lips crack (which only happens if I don't drink enough water) I have been using a tiny bit of plain Vaseline Petroleum Jelly. Want something that is oil + beeswax and just essential oils for flavour/preservative, but can't find a product that meets this criteria yet.

I have found most toothpastes to contain sodium laurel sulphate which is a harsh abrasive....i cannot tolerate this chemical it gives me horrendous mouth ulcers and causes my mouth major inflammation.....Sensodyne toothpaste is great no problems there...
lyn try coconut oil its a great remedy for most skin conditions...

agree re the coconut oil. I used to travel to Fiji for work reasons and they sell pure coconut oil there, it was fantastic. No chemicals used in the extraction, the product was pure coconut oil.
i use it with organic coconut to exfoliate my hands and feet etc.
Even the health food shops do not have a product that is as good
