Dang! Not home 24 hrs and it hits....

Oh well - better here than there!!!! I know what I did to cause it as well. After being gone for so long we had very little food here. We are in the midst of a heat wave (98 yesterday - 100 today) and we had some lime sherbet in the freezer my kids had wanted. I helped myself to some, wanting to cool off - didn't read the label until after. The dreaded modified food starch. CWAP!! This morning I made a mad dash for the :flush: I hope it is short-lived - I've got too much to do today!! Sipping my peppermint tea right now - I have to go to work in a bit - I took an Immodium and I'll cross my fingers! I hate this crappy disease

Awwww Mary!

I hate this crappy disease too (was that a play on words!?)

Hopefully it will be short lived.

I'm also having a problem today = might be stress, might be the heat.

Welcome home, BTW!

Hi Mary,

I know exactly what you mean about that MFs - as I call it - stands for well you can decipher that.

Modified food starch to me is almost about as bad as gluten. Just tasted Frank's salad dressing the other night and paid for it seriously. Just wanted to know what dressing tasted like - it has been years.

Hope you are feeling better today.

Hoping it is very short lived for you. I know exactly what you mean...better at home than while away.

UGH! I hope it is short lived for you.

Question on the modified food starch though...I know its one of those maybe ingrediants. But what is the most common derivation of the gluten containing grains for it? I've been noticing the allergy labeling on products that have modified food starch and then don't list wheat as an allergan. Does that make it okay? Or is it likely to be barley. Because isn't it sometimes corn?

Just trying to figure out how much to trust the food labeling law at this point, and I don't react like most of you, so its much harder (and takes more days) for me to notice a reaction and then correlate it. I.e., one serving won't make me hurt, so them I eat say the dressing every day, and then 3 or 4 days down the road I'm hurting, the product is gone, and I can't remember what I ate!

Oh, BAH, Mary. But far better your own :flush: than some strange one.

I hope this in just a short timer and that you feel better soon.

Hi Mary,

I hope you're back to normal ASAP. I hate that type of labeling, 'cause you never know what's really in it.

Katy,

Modified food starch is often made from corn, tapioca, and potatoes, and probably a few other odds and ends, in addition to wheat.

Hi Mary,

Plane trips used to be fun way back when - not anymore. I can't imagine what it would be like with 3 little kids! The airlines don't do anything to serve the passengers anymore; it's all about the bottom line - but I guess we get what we pay for.

Did you make it to Bittersweet? I'm sorry about the sherbet - we just can't let up on vigilance, can we, even for a minute? I wasn't thinking the other day and popped a piece of regular muffin in my mouth.
 Swallowed it, too, before I realized what I had done.

Love,
Alice

Oh Bummer, Mary!!

It is a royal pain in the butt to have to go out and buy gorceries as soon as you get home in order to be able to eat anything at all; I am glad your trip went well and by now I think you should have recovered from the reaction, right?

Alice,

What you are describing is one of my nightmares - to pop something in my mouth w/o thinking and then realize too late that is was NORMAL food. The world is literally covered in food-land-mines.

Wishing you both a speedy recovery.

Love,
