HELP - Mother in law just Diagnosed w/MC

OH MY - I am so glad I came across this site and discussion board. My mother in law has just been diagnosed with MC and she is freaking out over what diet/foods she needs to adapt to. She keeps getting mixed information, some say gluten & dairy free then others say low fat/fiber, etc. Obviously it is going to be a long process of elimination for the individual however my sweet mother in law is not known for patience in that area. She is trying to find menus and recipes RIGHT NOW! If anyone can provide some menus/recipes/ideas to get her started, much appreciated.

Hello, welcome here. the advices your mother in law gets make both sense. Where did she get that information, the gluten dairy free information most MC people find here. If it comes from her GI, that's a great doctor!!Also the low fiber is a good idea (especially insolvable fibers). Low fat I am not sure. But can't hurt anyway.

If you scroll down on the message board you will see there is a whole achieve with recipes and replacement for gluten containing products (which flowers to use) and dairy products.

I don't know how sick your mother in law is, and when she was diagnosed and if she is on medication and what kind. But especially in the beginning it wise to start with simple, plain, one ingredient food. Like rice or rice crackers, fish, chicken, bananas, overcooked vegetables, apple sauce. For almost everybody it is journey of trail and error to figure what food can be digested without problems and what not.

If you look on the menu of the forum there is a tab called Dee's Kitchen. Dee is a professional chef and has MC. She has adapted recipes to be gluten, egg and dairy free. The ones I have tried have been excellent. That should help your MIL get some ideas.

I have found that I definitely cannot handle high fiber and a lot of others on this board will say the same thing. A great majority of them are gluten sensitive. I am not one of those. Some are allergic to dairy and soy (another culprit).

I found some of my answers by keeping a food diary. I could usually tell within 24 hours if I had a bad reaction to a food. Sometimes it was a lot less than that. This may be one way to start trying to figure out what she can and cannot eat.

During a flare I ate really bland foods - rice, chicken, bananas.

There is a lot of information here. Keep reading and you'll get more ideas, I'm sure.
