Extra Virgin Olive oil that isn't....
There was a story on Good Morning America yesterday about an importer diluting olive oil with canola and or soy oil. He claims it isn't his fault HIS SUPPLIER did it.
Anyway, there is a way to test your oil at home.. just put it in the fridge.. if it stays clear.. it isn't extra virgin olive oil.. should get cloudy...sort of congeal.
My cheapo Kroger oil tested ok.. at least this bottle did...:)

WOW! This is interesting. It made me so angry to read the CEO saying that it's a labelling problem and not a health issue! Shows you how much he knows. And underscores the need for STRICT labelling laws......and maybe even random analyses of products, since this one wouldn't even have been caught by labelling laws.
Thanks, grannyh and Peg for the info. Will wonders never cease! We must always keep that index of suspicion, eh? I will not buy Hermes olive oil, you can bet on that!
Love,
Polly

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.

Uh-Oh!!
It is very discouraging to read the above story. Krinos has been one of the brands I like many products from - especially fond of the Kalamata Olives and Tahini but I also used to love the Feta Cheese from Krinos. I now have some hesitation after reading the story.
It's good to hear from your grannyh - you've always been a sharp lady in particulare when it comes to spotting SOY - the big bad cheap filler!! Thank you for sharing this information with us.
Jean, I couldn't help laughing at your suggestion for a test!! It never fails, does it?! What a gorgous young lady you are - very beautiful picture in your avatar.
Love,
Karen

Jean, you are indeed gorgeous.
Hmmmm. I cook almost entirely with olive oil. I will try Granny's test and see what I am REALLY cooking with. Canola oil doesn't make me sick, but if I am paying for olive oil, I want to get OLIVE OIL! Actually, I can taste it and smell it, especially once it is heated. I buy a brand that we used to get in Italy so I would be very surprised if it was contaminated. But I will see.
I have run out of it or I would tell you the name. I will go on a hunt for it today.
Love,
Sally
