We have a new store here that is carrying fresh Norbest turkeys. Believe it or not, there is a difference in taste between fresh and frozen. I am very pleased to see this--it has been a long time since I have had the opportunity to eat fresh turkey.

Found some good recipes for gluten free pumpkin pie, gotta have it:

I think you can find subs for the eggs and milk if you are sensitive to that.
Also purchased some gluten free corn muffin mix to make the cornbread stuffing gluten free as well as gluten free roll mix.
Its taken a little planning but I shouldn't feel to deprived on thanksgiving.

I'm bumping this thread I posted three years ago.
FWIW, I react to Butterball and Jennie O turkeys. I only buy Honeysuckle and Norbest, when I can find them. I buy as many as I can fit in my freezer when they are in season, since they're difficult to find the rest of the year.

Good info, Gloria! thanks! I don't buy Butterball either. I usually look for a local farm.
A couple of years ago, when I was still teaching, DH, retired at the time and in charge of shopping for Thanksgiving, thought he would buy a "free-range" turkey. It must have been a wild turkey somebody shot in town, because it was gross looking. I was embarrassed to put it on the table, and people were noticeably averse to eating it. I felt guilty at how mad I was, because I knew he thought he was looking out for me.
When I thought about it later, it occurred to me that the turkey he bought was probably much closer to what folks in the past were used to, before turkey farms started pumping birds full of stuff.
