My daughter in law is in nursing school and one of the instructors was talking about a bowel training program used at MD Anderson Cancer center. They claim this program can even promote regular scheduled bowel movements in patients with a colostomy situation! The program is regularly used by chemo patients...
Just wondering if anyone has a copy of the program or has used it? Hopefully will get a copy from daughter in law next week..

Yep, I bowel trained my uncle. He had to be put on the pot EVERY morning whether he "needed" to go or not or bm's would just pour out all the time otherwise. He had Parkinson's, and the megacolon that goes with it. Their guts can hold an unbelievable amount of stuff if they're not properly cared for.
The aide who came would try to get away with bathing my uncle in bed rather than get him up because she didn't want to have to empty the bedpan when gravity moved things along -- it was THAT large an amount that would come out. She was supposed to be respite for me for a short while, but she was such more trouble than she was worth. What would happen was that
when she didn't follow through on my successful bowel training, he began to unload a big load when I would get him up to eat after she left. Then, I'd end up having to give him another bath. She did some other stuff too, but we didn't fire her til she physically abused my uncle -- that was it! She was the SECOND one that had done that, and the other one verbally abused him as well. All the other aides and nurses loved him, and vice versa. Makes me dread getting old and sick sometimes. Anyway, this is why I don't hire anyone to help with my mom -- more trouble than it's worth!
Do tell us what MDA program consists of, please. Can always add to my bag of tricks. M.O.M. works well on my mom who has megacolon as well, but then she's still ambulatory, only with me right beside her (if she doesn't get away from me!).
I don't know of any bowel training that would help with M.C., however, but let me know if you hear of something, just in case I develop another problem food. Not planning on it though.

I trained myself, after I had been out of control for so long, and finally started getting results from the diet. I didn't realize there was an approved, fully accredited way to do it. How about that?
