what does this mean?
hi again, i may have asked this before but i can't remember....so, what does it mean if i go to the bathroom in the a.m. (actually yesterday i went after breakfast- like 4 hrs. after i got up, so no urgency then ) and it was very good when i went! then i went after lunch, not as good, pieces and thinner. then i went at 9:30 at night and that never happens! and it was a soft pile with a film on the toilet water? how can i go 3 times and each time be completely different!!
also, what does it mean when after i go (at least the last 2 times yesterday) my rear ended burned - i would assume like a diaper rash....??? i have noticed this off and on for the past month or so....any ideas?
also, called my dr. again on wed. (he wanted an update on being on the asacol for 2 weeks) and guess what? low and behold he is out of the office again until next week. what the heck? how am i supposed to update him when he is never there....they said he checks in for his messages, but he has not called me back yet....i think it might be time to look for another dr.!!

Great variation in type of stools is common I believe. It certainly is for me. I had a bad night on Wed night (including D, nausea, etc.) sometime the next morning I had a small formed stool. A person is always getting surprised with this disease.

Your BM patterns through the day sound very much like mine on a busy work day, Stress is one of my MC triggers so it is common for me to have the MC pile of mud late afternoon early evening.
since moving and changing jobs this happens less frequently.
it takes time for you body to settle down, keep a 'winning the poop' type diary/journal tracking food and drink intakes, med intakes, any reactions like pain or joint aches etc , and the BM info
listening to your body can give you way way more answers than most doctors...

Another thing to do about "monkey butt" is to invest in some baby wipes instead of toilet paper. I learned this trick from a soldier friend who had what they called "Baghdad Stomach". It really makes an incredible difference. I just get the unscented store brand, with aloe, and it has helped a lot!

What you describe is so typical at the beginning of trying to manage mc. Once I felt like I was on the right med (Entocort) and had sorted out my diet the best I could, I tried not to focus too much on all the variations and to have faith that what I was doing would eventually get me into remission and it did. It takes so long for your gut to heal and there are many ups and downs. In the beginning even when you're doing all the right things you can have days like you've described. Hang in there and things will improve. I think most of us have had to resort to some type of ointment at one time or another. I remember a thread devoted entirely to that topic that had some great advice and humor. You might want to do a search.

Wow, Shirley and JoAnn, you both said a mouthful. This disease is always surprising us, but once we feel like we have figured out the best thing for us to achieve remission, then we just have to be patient and have faith.
It is so easy (and believe me, I struggle with this constantly) to just get frustrated and figure that as long as I am not eating gluten, I am done trying to figure out the rest of the crap (pun intended). For me, a very positive step was going ahead and having the Enterolab testing. I am waiting for my results now.

another good thing to help ease issues with 'monkey butt' i use thin washers/face clothes that are wet - i have at least 20 of them they are part of my "MC essentials" draw in the bathroom
combo of the Oz humidity and me being a germ phobe, i wash towels every three days so there are always some in supply.
