rice dream rice milk the last step to remission?
I have been following the last couple of days the topic on rice dream rice milk and that it may contain gluten. It made me think, last year in september when I left for Jordan, there was stress everywhere. Nevertheless my MC was behaving very well, actually better than ever. The only difference between Groningen and Amman was no decaf coffee and rice dream. Now back home I have been using again, it's not going bad but not as well as in Jordan.
So could this be the last food item keeping me away from full remission? I have given up on rice dream and other brands now (all other brands contain carrageen, guar gom and that kind of stuff) and hope it will make a change.

Harma - when I saw the subject of your post I think my heart skipped a beat - hoping against hope that the rice dream is now "pure". I really miss it after giving it up a few days ago . Anyhow, I hope that eliminating it from your diet will help put the final touch on your recovery.
A few days ago, I discovered that my lipstick (which I used many times a day) has corn and soy, as well as possible traces of gluten. I'm now down to wearing no makeup of any kind, and for body lotion, as well as face moisturizer, I use pure grapeseed oil. I will be looking for a lipstick that meets all my "free this and free that" requirements. I have always loved to wear lipstick, applying a touch of it to my cheeks as well - for the time being I'll just look completely washed out and pale .
It's amazing how hard it is to purify everything we ingest, as well as products we use. Like Tex often says, it is those items we automatically go to every day and don't think to question that get us.
Best of luck to you with this - hope it works .
Love,
Kari

i empathisise totally, I have managed to find a foundation/make up base that has minimal soy that i can use.
aside from that i have not used any other make up due to reactions. when i was going for the interviews last November i used a bit of eyeshadow to get some colour, for a week after i had small lumps on my eyelids. i havent been able to use mascara for almost 4 years.
the MC monkey is cruel to us girls this way...

I solved my make up problem, by not using it all anymore. Not because of gluten, but anytime I use make up my eyes got irritated again.

You are so right Kari. I'm dizzy with reading the oh-so-very-small print on make ups, lip sticks, lotions, shampoo, conditioner and soaps. Not to mention the fact that you can't even pronounce the names.Kari wrote: It's amazing how hard it is to purify everything we ingest, as well as products we use. I have switched to pure Moroccan argan oil as a moisturizer and seem to like it so far. How is the grapeseed oil working for you?
I had also posted under the safe cosmetics area about a company that has gluten and soy free cosmetics called Ultrapure. The link to the lipsticks are here:
http://www.ultrapurecosmetics.com/produ ... e%252dFree!.
They list all the ingredients on the page. The last ingredient is tocopherol (vit E) but it does state soy free. I know you have had a tough time determining your multiple sensitivities and even a product like this seems scary when we continue to have setbacks. I feel your pain because I've been smearing vasoline on my lips for the past 2 weeks now.

I didn't know Rice Dream could be a problem. I've been doing very well since going diary and mostly soy free since January 1 (GF since October), but Wednesday, and again today, I had D. I thought it must be that I was beginning to react to the soy oil in my vitamin D, but now, seeing this thread, I realize that I just started using Rice Dream this week. I had been using Almond Breeze, but wanted to try the Rice Dream to see which I liked better. I'll stop using it and see if that makes a difference.
MC sure is complicated!
Do some of you really react to gluten and soy in lotions and shampoos? Things that you don't eat? Do you get D or some other type of reaction?
Does 'tocopherol' always indicate the presence of soy? I called the company that makes my Vitamin E, and they said it was soy-free.

www.Afterglowcosmetics.com for lipsicks and mascara.A few days ago, I discovered that my lipstick (which I used many times a day) has corn and soy, as well as possible traces of gluten. I'm now down to wearing no makeup of any kind,
www.everydayminerals.com for base make-up, eye shadows, and blush.
Both sites are g/f and s/f as well as mica free, which irritates my skin to no end.
I order from 2 different sites because the everyday minerals are less expensive, and they let you try small size products for free so you can find a color and formula that you like. But their lipsticks have soy.
Afterglow cosmetics have some nice colors for their lipsticks, but seem more expensive. I did order a lip balm from them and it seems nice. I'm waiting for the color of lipstick that I like to become available.

Kelly - the grapeseed oil is OK, but not as good as the coconut oil I used prior to it. Unfortunately, I think I might be reacting to coconut, so had to stop using it. Because of its consistency the coconut oil worked very well as a body lotion - you may want to give it a whirl. I'll look into the Moroccan oil.

Kari

I too had some problems with makeup and creams, so much so that I now wear very little makeup.
I tried argan poducts and they have been very good, no problems at all, and even had compliments that my skin looks and feels good.
I bought argan oil, argan face cream, and body lotion, all very good. Not cheap, but they seem to last a long time.
Mine came from http://www.worldartisanguild.com/
So the money goes to women in the third world, not the usual cosmetic companies.

I'm really curious as to how the Rice Dream is working for everyone because it is one that I haven't tried yet and seems to have the least amount of ingredients. I know I'm still fairly new into the gf,cf,sf diet but feel like I may still not have all removed all intolerances out of my diet yet. It may be either caffeine or the carrageenan which seems to be in many of the df milks and I see others that have listed this as an intolerance so I'm considering it. I've switched to coconut milk but still use almond milk occasionally.
Kari-That's too bad about the coconut oil. I have used it on my arms, hands and legs but hadn't considered it on my face. I have read so many good things about the Argan oil that I decided that it was time to give it a try. I haven't been using it long enough to say that I notice its positive attributes on my face but I am definitely not experiencing any problems from it. I also use it on my hands and I noticed a great improvement in the texture of my skin. You are right Maxine, it's not cheap but then when is any worthwhile beauty treatment cheap? The best price I was able to find was through overstock.com (of all places) at $31 for 4 oz and managed to get free shipping at the time. You don't need very much when applying to face however. It is supposed to be good for skin, nails and hair. I'll have to try the grapeseed oil too and compare them. I'm glad you have found something to replace the coconut oil Kari.

I wanted to chime in on this most interesting thread. I am looking for the Rice Dream but so far haven't found unsweetened, will keep looking. I want a milk that I can drink and use for a "cream" sauce so these sweetened milks that have 8 to 11 grams of sugar per serving just don't work. I have used a lot of Tempt Hemp original unsweetened and really like it, but don't like paying over $4 a qt. Sometimes it will be on sale for under $3, so load up.
I have been using Silk Almond Unsweetened and like it. It doesn't have carrageenan, but has gellan and locust bean gums. I see that high intake of gellan can have a laxative effect, but hope a glass or so a day wouldn't be considered "high intake". I did call the company to ask about d-alpha-tocoperol and they verified that the milk is a soy free product.
Back to the lipstick problem, I finally gave up and just use gloss, but found most of them have soy and flavors. Two I found that are ok are Badger Unscented Lip Balm and Dr. Bronner's Magic Lip Balm, "Naked" because I don't like cherry, etc. flavors. My only complaint is no SPF but everyone is telling us we don't get enough Vitamin D, although chapped lips probably aren't the answer, huh! Anyway, the ingredients in both are good, no gluten or soy, and available reasonably at either iherb or vitacost.
