Ordered test kit
Hi,
I have ordered a test kit directly from the Signet LEAP website. For $100 there is a dietitian's help included. Communication with the dietitian will be by phone. I am wondering if anyone has used a dietitian this way?
I live in a rural area in Montana and I don't think there are any services close by. My GI doc is 121 miles away and I don't have a primary care physician at this time. Thanks, Connie

Hi Connie,
The material you receive from Signet with your test results is very comprehensive, so you will be able to figure out what to do yourself. You can also come on here and ask questions. Mary Beth, who as you may know is a dietitian, is incredibly helpful. However, if you have the extra $100 and want to speak with someone who knows the program very well, then it certainly can't hurt.
My experience is similar to Gloria's, I have had a couple of phone conversations with the dietitian, and some emails. Although dietitians know the MRT/LEAP program very well, they may not be very familiar with MC, so the information you get here is probably the best. Those are my thoughts FWIW.
Lots of luck to you and do let us know how you make out.
Love,
Kari

Kari,
To add to what you said, I feel pretty safe in making the observation that Mary Beth probably knows more about MRT/LEAP, and specifically, how it relates to MC, than all the other dietitians in this country put together. We are very fortunate to have her insight on this board.
Love,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thanks for your replies.
Gloria, the test without the dietitian is $495.00. I did order it with the dietitian but I think after reading the responses I will opt out, which I was told I can do when I order the tests. My hesitation on using the dietitian was the concern that they would not understand MC.
Thank you so much. I have learned so much from you folks and I take comfort in knowing that I am not alone on this journey. I wish it was just a bump in the road but it is a journey.

Thanks for your kind words - I learned what I know about MC here, from the real experts
It's not uncommon for dietitians to work over the phone with MRT, so being in the same town isn't necessary, although sometimes helpful because they can direct you to resources in your area.
Kari,
I rarely follow the stages exactly as the computer from Signet prints out because it doesn't take into account certain factors. For example, with MC I would most likely pull out suspicious lectins in the early phases and the computer won't do this. Many of the other materials are self explanatory however.
Connie,
I am looking forward to following your progress!
