Update Emily and Roni

Post by ronipow »

Hi, everyone. Hope everyone is doing well. It seems that sugar is a big part of the puzzle. Emily has been doing much better since she has cut down her sugar consumption. Fruit seems to be the biggest culprit. She's
not allergic to corn, but does not tolerate corn sugar in large doses.

I have been doing some research on this treatment called NAET. It looks very promissing. If you want to check it out just do a search and several sites come up on it.

Emily is going to start treatment on Friday. It is based on acupunture or acupressure. They find out what you are allergic to and then in accordence to the food you are allergic to make an acupuncture or pressure adjustment. Then you no longer have that allergy.

I met a women who was allergic to dairy and allergic to scratching herself, plus four other things and is now able to eat those things.

This NAET also works with Celiacs, fibromialga, colitis, and many other type of autoimmune diseases.

I know it sounds to good to be true. But, I have this gut feeling that this is the real deal. So, we are going to be pioneers in this. It's not invasive so, it can't hurt to try.

I'll keep you updated on our progress.

Hi Roni,

I'm glad to see that you've found that sugar is a problem for Emily. It seems to be a problem for many of us with MC.

I certainly wish you and Emily the best, but I can assure you that treatments such as NAET, are indeed too good to be true, (as is the case with virtually everything that seems to be too good to be true). I'm not saying that it won't provide some temporary sensation of relief, but I believe I can safely guarantee, that the only thing that it will cure, is poverty among those individuals selling the services.

I hate to rain on your parade, but if that treatment worked, there would be practically no disease in the world, because the technique would be immediately used by virtually everyone who is diagnosed. The word of such a powerful and unfailing cure, would spread worldwide, ovenight. We wouldn't have to look it up on the web, because it would make the headlines in every newspaper in the world.

Hopefully, the treatment won't hurt anything, but please don't spend any significant amount of money on it. That way you will only be disappointed, and not devastated, when it doesn't work.

Believe me, the best thing that could happen, would be for you to return with the news that I'm all wet, and the treatment cured Emily's problems. I would be overjoyed to eat crow. However, I'm not going to be digging out any crow recipes just yet, until I can see some proof that there is any validity to the rosy claims that are made about the treatment.

Look at the sites that are promoting NAET. Would you buy a used car from these guys?

I know it sound too good to be true. But, I have met some people who have been helped with acupunture for colitis. And many believe acupuncture to be a hoax, even though it has been practice for years and years.

We can't even get out GI's to believe that food elimination helps MC, how the heck would we get them to buy into anything else.

Let's just say I am going to have an open mind about it.

I have friends who have been helped with homeopothy. It's not main stream, most think it's bunk.

It won't take long to see if it has an effect. So, I won't be throwing too much money down the drain.

Thanks for being concerned and hopefully I'll have some good new to report.

Hi Roni,

For the record, it's not accupuncture that I question, it's the NAET program. Accupuncture seems to bring positive results, for the purposes it is suitable for.

NAET appears to be mostly wishful thinking, at least in the case of diseases in which there is significant physical damage to the body, such as MC.

As those who know me well will attest, I'm open minded too, so I'm looking forward to good news from you in the near future, and I hope the program goes well.

Hi Roni,

It's good to hear from you again - you didn't mention how Emily is doing on her current diet after elimination of the things she tested positive for at Enterolab; you mentioned sugar. I am glad she is getting some relief after reducing the sugar - most people in this country would benefit from reducing the sugar in their diets.
Is it possible that she is feeling better due to elimination of her trigger foods (the one's she tested positive for)? That's where my focus would be if I were her - it takes time to fine tune a balanced diet free of those triggers; but the body should respond very favorably and relatively fast to not being exposed to the things that set of the immune reaction. Does she still have a lot of rumbling/gas/diarrhea or has it subsided on her trigger free diet?

I don't want to be in a support group and not be honest with you so I need to say that I tend to be sceptical in relation to a program like NAET - it can be very costly too. And of course, Emily is a real person who deserves the best care; she is not a girl who should be the guinea pig for yet another program unless there is substantial reason to believe that it is the right thing for her to do. I am not saying that I know what is right for her (and you) but I wish you would stick with the diet for now and give her some peace to focus on school etc while you both learn the details of the trigger free diet and figure out whether or not it is indeed enough treatment for her. It has been enough for so many of us but we need time (months or years even) before we have it all figured out - it isn't easy to get there but one must keep trying - not switch to something else....

I hope I am not being too hard on you - I really wish Emily the best of health.

Love,
Karen

Karen,

You have a valid point. Probably the toughest part of treating MC by diet alone, is having the patience and perseverence to give the diet time to work. Our bodies accumulate a lot of damage from this disease, and it takes time to recover from that trama. There's nothing magic about remission--if we remove all the offending food triggers, the body WILL recover. It does take some time for the healing to be completed, though.
