Generic version of imodium without lactose?

Post by MAC123 »

I don't avoid gluten or soy in my diet, but I do avoid dairy/lactose.

I have been to 4 stores in my area looking for imodium, all of which were out. I remember reading that most generic versions contain lactose. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a store brand that does not contain lactose/dairy? (Walmart, Target, Kroger, Giant Eagle, CVS, etc)

The only one I have found is not generic. The real Imodium AD. Unfortunately it is more expensive.

And unavailable, as far as I can tell. Even more puzzling - I can't find any explanation on the web. I've been to IBS websites, iherb.com to order it (I can't), Imodium.com. Nobody's talking. I don't get it.

In Australia my doctor advised to never use 'generic brands' for any medication as the comprehensive ingredient labelling is not required for generics, he said most of them are using lactose and gluten based stabilisers.

I did a search via Google News for any published articles and nothing regarding the ?recall came up

Maybe they're just behind on production, or more likely, refurbishing their factory, or installing new machinery, and they had to shut down production for a while.

If anyone urgently needs some, I think that I still have a full, unopened box, and maybe half of an open box, that I bought about a year ago, after my surgery. I'm still at work, so I can't take inventory until I get back home, later tonight.

I had to stop taking it, because it makes me dizzy, (and my small intestine soon took over part of my missing colon's duties, so I didn't really need the Imodium, anyway). It's Imodium AD.

I'll send it to the highest bidder. Just kidding. I'll be happy to send it prepaid, totally free of charge, to the first person who responds, and asks for it.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
