Wow Jodibelle, that's amazing - don't think I can go to bed tonight for fear of missing the hatching . Thanks so much for posting this.

Sara - I'm riveted!!! When I first saw the baby, I couldn't figure out where the head was and it was having lots of trouble lifting it. Now, it's already being fed by the mother, and I agree - it looks bigger - can't believe my eyes..........

Just read on the website that the first one hatched yesterday, not today - so I did not see it right after it hatched after all ....... When I wake up in the morning, guess what I'll be doing first thing? Yep, checking on the second hatching .

This is the hawk my sister was talking about at the bottom of the hummingbird link that Jodi posted for me.

Hi Joan,
Thanks for posting this, along with the live cam on "Phoebe" link. My laptop is sitting on my kitchen counter tuned into the nest, while I'm preparing my "everything free" meals :).
I bet those hawks are descendants of Pale Male, who has been a resident hawk on 5th Ave in Manhattan for around 20 years. My husband and I used to go watch the nest from Central Park. At the time he arrived, it was quite a novelty, as I think it was the first time a hawk built a nest on a building in NYC. Here is a link to the story about Pale Male http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pale_Male for anyone interested.
Love,
Kari

thank you for sharing - it is awesome.
JOan how do you have time for this when you have your four legged babies! loved the swimming pool shot on FB
Jodi - hope your days and weeks are still full of peace and happiness......
while there are events of destruction and our lives can be a bit intense, events like this can help to ground us and remind us of what is important
In brisbane there are some birds that are nested at the top of one of the buildings, the boy bird is called fodo, they have a camera and when the babies are due to hatch it is on the front page of the paper....

Gabes, the baby is now 11 months old and gigantic. She's way bigger than the 3 year old. She still whines. Gets us up at ungodly hours. A real PITA.
I managed to get her through Beginner's Obedience and we are working on Novice I now.
I posted a picture!!!!!

Yesterday was high drama for those of us who watched the humming birds. As the second baby was hatching, it got stuck to Phoebe and when she flew out of the nest, the baby went along and fell to the ground.
Everyone took it for dead, then the "owner" put the half shell still left with the bird in it back into the nest with a teaspoon. Then the vigil began to see if it was alive and would make it - wow, amazing how attached one can get to an itty, bitty little creature.
The vigil is still on this morning, as the little one hasn't fed yet, but it's still alive !!!

This is a facinating website! I've been watching for awhile today and I haven't seen her feed the second one, but it does move. Maybe I have missed the feeding. Thank you, Jodi for posting this! We have a hummingbird feeder just outside our kitchen window and love to watch them. The ones we have in Texas aren't as colorful. On rare occasions we have seen a ruby throated, they are similar to Phoebe. We have black chinned hummers.
