Karen/Diet & Weightloss

Post by harvest_table »

Karen,

You asked about my weightloss in your Cavewoman thread and I thought I'd start a new topic because it's pretty interesting.

Yes, I have indeed lost 50lbs as an "added benefit" of my dieting to control my MC symptoms. I'm utterly shocked to be honest.

The weight loss started after I started the GF diet a year ago. It has come off slowly and consistantly but I noticed I dropped faster after I ommited dairy products 6 months ago.

At the time of my MC DX in March 04 I weighed 175 ( I'm 5'7") and now I'm at 127. Have a few more I could lose but hope it stops soon. If it does not, I'm going to have to investigate whether something else is causing it and that isn't really a thought I want to entertain.

Anyway, I've bought a new wardrobe and feel great. My thoughts about the weightloss are that I had it to lose to start with and when I started the GF diet I started eating healthy for a change- cut out all processed foods and gave up sweets entirely. The pounds have just melted off- it's great.

Now I need to find a gym to get buff, like you. :barbell: Hope you and your family have been enjoying the summer.

I'd be interested to know if any other dieters have experience this type of weightloss too.

Love,
Joanna

Joanna,

It is indeed very interesting. I am glad to read that you feel great - otherwise your sizeable weightloss would begin to worry me too. I also think it is encouraging that your weightloss has been slow and steady; a quick dip in weight would be more worrysome.
5'7" and 127 lbs sounds like a relatively good weight to me; I am 5'3" and weigh 110 lbs - very lean; relatively low body fat. Your idea to get buff by lifting weights or doing some kind of resistance training is excellent for your health; it has many benefits for women of all ages - it is never too late to start and most people experience quick changes in their muscle tone and body composition after starting weight training.

I am looking forward to reading other dieters experience with weightloss. Thanks for starting this thread and have a good night.

Love,
Karen

I wish I could loose some weight. I'm about the same size as Joanna (apparently)...only an inch taller, but heavier. Unfortunately, I am not as good about my diet as you all are (I don't react as quickly, so the incentive for not having a taste of this, or a taste of that isn't as strong). I'm also in hormone hell. I've been gaining since I was 18, but when it became really noticable to me was about a year before my initial endometriosis diagnosis, and then this last year. Some of the last year I blame on living with Geoff, who has dinner prepared for me most nights when I get home from work (nice, but eliminates those "light" meal/snack type nights). But I've also been on psuedo-pregnacy hormones, and now am on psuedo-menopause drugs. A bit has come off with the gardening and other activity of summer. My trick is to get some of the weight off, and get my abs in shape before surgey in January.
