Need words of encouragement
I'm on day four of feeling lousy and I need some words of encouragement. I don't feel like eating or even getting out of bed. I think I'm depressed. I'm worried about everything--my ailing pets, my job, my health...I need a kick in the pants to pull myself up out of this.
Any helpful words would be greatly appreciated.

M,
I'm so sorry you are feeling bad still. If you think you are depressed though, please seek professional help. Just talking it out with someone may be all it takes to get that "kick in the pants" you need (heck, talking to us might do that!), or you may need more treatment than that.
Eat lightly and blandly...remember how not eating can give people D? Hopefully that will help ease the appetite and health concerns a bit.

Awww, Melissa.
This sucks.
I agree with everything Katy has said. Also, please tell us more about what is going on with your pets, job, and health. There is so much wisdom and support here......someone just may have a solution for you.
If you ever feel like chatting on the phone, I'm available. Just send me a PM with your number. I would love to chat in person with you!
You might like to check out a little book tiltled "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff, and it's all small stuff" by Carlson (I think). It puts things into perspective very nicely IMHO. Hang in there - we're here whenever you need us!
Love,
Polly

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
Dear m,
Depression in something that goes right along with having MC. How could it not? Here we are suddenly not in control of our own bodies and then, it seems, we are not in control of our own lives. Things that we need to be doing pile up and it really doesn't seem worth it to get out of bed in the morning. I have been there and the only solution I found was to ask for help. Whether it's from family or friends or a professional. The fact is, that sometimes we need help. Just the act of asking for it, lifts the cloud of depression. Please try to do that. If you need medication for it, take it. While MC may last a life-time, depression need not. I was in counseling for about a year and I learned so much about myself and skills for coping with my situation. I can't begin to tell you how helpfull it was. I came out of it feeling that I was competent and that if I was getting into trouble, I could ask people for help.
I hope that you manage to care for yourself in all ways. Being depressed is not unusual and I bet that everyone here has had their bouts of it and can tell you more ways to cope.
Lots of love,
Sally

Hi Melissa,
It sounds as if all the negative things in life are ganging up on you to make life miserable. Please don't let negative thoughts get you down. You've surely been there before, (we all have), and you know it will everntually pass.
Since this has been going on for a while now, and seems to be stress related, you're probably correct, in thinking that you are experiencing the effects of depression. If you can't shake it soon, it might be advisable to see if your doctor feels that you might benefit from a prescription for an antii-depressant.
There are natural sources of tryptophan, which allow your body to produce serotonin, and thereby help to overcome the effects of depression. Eating chocolate, for example, should increase your seratonin level, and thereby improve your mood. Some additional sources are oats, bananas, dried dates, milk, cottage cheese, meat, fish, turkey, and peanuts. Even something as simple as a bowl of good old-fashioned chicken soup, might help your outlook. Most of us feel better, when we have something warm and soothing, to fill our belly.
Love,
Wayne

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Melissa,
I've had personal experience with depression - major and minor. I know just how it makes you feel: like everything is too big an effort to even attempt. You've taken the best possible first step to lift your depression by talking to us here! Sometimes life is just too much to cope with, and we need a little help.
I've had counseling and have taken anti-depressants; both were a big help to me. You might want to consider making a call to your doctor to discuss things.
Please return and tell us how you're doing! And know that many of us understand what you're going through.
Love,
Alice

Hi Melissa,
Everyone has given you such wonderful advice. I agree with Wayne for the short term on lifting your spirits! What a wonderful treat - CHOCOLATE!!!! LOL
You've made a good start by letting us know that you need us - and we will be here for you. Call your doc on Monday and make an appointment. Discuss the problems with him/her and maybe an antidepressant short/long term will help. It does take some time for the meds to get into your system so the sooner the better.
Know that we are here to help you through the rough times or the times when you just need someone to listen to you.
Here are some from all of us.
Eat some small meals - soup and tea might make you feel better. Cuddle with the pets and visit us often.
Hugs,
Margie

Hi M!
I too have stuffered from depression and know how crummy it makes a person feel. When I am depressed, I suffer physically and mentally....bummer...it is like a double whammy...
Everyone has given you good advice....I know that a walk sometimes makes me feel better. When I'm depressed, it is the last thing I want to do, but exercise does help me. Of course when my D was bad...I didn't walk very far.
Hope you feel better kiddo...we're here for you.

Hi M....I can sure Identify with you as I myself have been depressed latley. There's alot going on in my life in many areas right now, and it sucks. I think everyone is right...it comes with MC. Please talk to us...if you need someone to call you and talk please let us know. We all care about you. Love Oma
May I be more compassionate and loving than yeterday*and be able to spot the idiots in advance
Thank you all. Your kind thoughts and comments are just what the doctor ordered. Logically I know this will pass eventually but sometimes it feels like it's too much. I am trying to talk some sense into myself and take baby steps. I keep thinking about what my mom would say about this..."have a cup of tea, you'll feel better." She was English. Everything is solved by having a cup of tea. I'll be okay...if I could only get rid of my boss, make my cats live disease-free forever and suddenly be cured of MC, everything would be perfect. Short of that I guess I'll take the chocolate.
Seriously, it's really nice to know that people care.

Oh, Melissa; I am so sorry to hear how badly are feeling.
I think talking to someone about it is the best thing you can do - what a good idea to let us know about it; that's a good first step. Sometimes it seems there is noone out there to talk to, noone who cares or has the time to listen. It can be tough to feel all alone without having anyone to share one's thoughts or life with; you are welcome to call me and talk about this that and everything and nothing - just send your phone number in a pm and I will call you.
Your mother must have been a wise woman to think that a cup of tea would help; that's where I get most of my help too - many times every day
Melissa, how are your pets? And tell us about your pesky boss, OK?!
Love,
Karen
