bouillon

Post by Martha »

Last Sunday my family was here for dinner, and stayed for supper, so I made a big pot of soup. I didn't have enough home-made chicken stock, so I foolishly used the seasoning packets from Ramen-type noodles. The ones I had were made in Indonesia. The ingredients didn't list anything that screamed gluten or soy, although it did list MSG, which probably has both of those, yes?

Anyway, the family enjoyed the soup, and so did I, but the next day I was so tired I could scarcely drag myself around. Then I got D, and felt lousy for two days.

So...on my next trip to the grocery store, I looked for safe bouillon. I know I could get the Pacifica broth, but it's expensive, and I usually keep home-made on hand. Anyway, I found a brand called Edward and Sons Not-Chick'n bouillon cubes. Their website says they are vegan, and free of gluten, casein, dairy, soy, eggs, peanut, tree nuts, but have maltodextrin. Has anyone tried these?

Hi Martha I have not seen this product yet but will check the next time I am at whole foods. It's amazing how many products have gluten, soy, dairy and MSG. Like you the MSG really causes me issues with fatigue and a headache. Prior to MC MSG did not bother me that much

Take care and thanks for sharing this Martha

I tried that one but was not too find of it. I now use "The Organic Gourmet". It is vegan and gluten free.

My mother always had a hard time with MSG - and in addition to fatigue/headache, had MC-like symptoms, I'm pretty sure. It seems worth avoiding, for sure.

Buggity, thanks for the 'Organic Gourmet' suggestion.
