Dr Appt

Post by TooManyHats »

I went to the doctor today. She wants to test me for c-diff. I guess she just doesn't get the mast cell issue. However, she did give a prescription for Entocort with the standard dosage of one 3 mg tab 3 times per day. I took 1. I ate dinner, however, did not spend the evening in the bathroom. I'm going to try to do this with as little as possible. What's the best time of day to take it? Morning or evening?

Oh, and she says I spend too much time on the internet. :yikes:

I took another Entocort this morning. It's simply amazing how much better I feel today than yesterday.

And I am certain she spends too little time LISTENING to her customers (and taking note of clinical evidence) as distinct from swallowing the statistics paid for by big pharma.

We all do. A larger problem is the fact that most doctors spend too little time on the internet. That's why they're so out of touch with cutting edge discoveries and new technology.

Most recommendations I've seen, suggest taking Entocort first thing in the morning, but that's not chiseled in stone.

My doctor has me taking it all at once. I tried taking 3, but had side effects, now I take 2 first thing in the morning.

Hugs,

She said I could take it all at once too, or space it out if I wanted to. I'm hoping that one is all I need. I did have trouble getting to sleep last night. I hope that this doesn't become a problem. So far, so good. I've only been in the bathroom once this morning. Not Norman, but not terrible either.

I definitely need to find another doctor.

Absolutely. She's the queen of saying how long studies say you should take this or that medication.

According to my doctor, anything on the internet is not true. I guess if it's not published, it's worthless, especially if a patient brings it to her attention.

The thing is, these days, virtually anything published anywhere, is published on the internet, as well, much of it before the print copies even go out in the mail. Most doctors only trust peer-reviewed research, of course, but all of that is on there, too. And the search capabilities make the net the fastest, easiest way to access virtually any data, when it's needed in a hurry. Plus, you have the added advantage of almost instantly seeing others' thoughts on a report.

The refusal of so many doctors to utilize the internet, is one of the main limitations that keep the progress of mainstream medicine so far behind the other technology-based industries. No modern scientist can afford to eschew the internet, unless they have a very good reason to limit the advancement of their knowledge. Of course, that's just my opinion, and I'm just an ignernt ol' country boy.

Ah, would that doctors were scientifically minded... I believe this problem has been greatly exacerbated by the incredibly possibility that patients can learn stuff on the Internet... but it goes back a long way, because the training and education of physicians is this crazy initiation into a secret club. So when someone learns from a neighbor or colleague that they feel sooo much better when they stopped doing one thing, or started doing something else, it was the role of the physician to chuckle wisely and assure the patient that it was a coincidence, or placebo effect, or foolishness... or a gluten-free fad.

I knew someone years ago whose GI was exceptionally open to what he was learning from a pre-WWW Crohn's support group. That was rare back then, and it's even rarer now. Interestingly, the quality of care is also declining...

Arlene,

I always took all three pills with breakfast.

That's great news that Entocort is working so quickly for you. You'll probably wonder why you waited so long to take it. I hope you can maintain on a smaller dosage very quickly. I suspect that you will.

Keep us posted.

I was diagnosed on June 13th and have been on Entocort since June 14th, 3 - 3mg capsules a day, all at once, first thing in the morning. I'd love to not be on the high dose, but will be seeing my doctor on August 3 for a follow up appt.

Like you, as soon as I began the Entocort, my D pretty much went away. The problem is so did Norman.

I hope you continue to feel better.
